Music from Movie Epics

I'm just trying to compile some good instrumental songs from movies, epic type movies especially. Two that come to mind that I have are Promentory from Last of the Mohicans and Ecstasy of Gold from the Good the Bad and the Ugly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tryouts - Rudy
Going the Distance - Rocky
The Final Bell - Rocky
The Final Countdown - Europe
Hummel Gets the Rockets - The Rock
PM's Love Theme - Love Actually (used in a tight preview of 05 RB)
Ronin - The Last Samurai
Main Theme - Crimson Tide (don't recall actual track title)
Spectres in the Fog - The Last Samurai

I'll post more if I can think of them.

you may not consider it epic, but The Shawshank Redemption has some of the most recognizable and powerful original music I can remember.

Epics are in a class of their own. These soundtracks come to mind and several IMO have some great instrumental tracks (some of these are epics / some are debateable):

Lawrence of Arabia
Dr. Zhivago
Apocalypse Now
The Man Who would be King
Giant

Others I like:

Bourne Identity
Top Gun
Midnight Cowboy

I found Clint Mansell's soundtrack to "The Fountain" hauntingly beautiful. His soundtrack for "Requiem For A Dream" is very good also.

Two that will not have any other mention here, but you really should give a go are Ice Station Zebra and The Wind And The Lion. Also, you might want to check into some of the Ennio Morricone compilation cd's.

Not sure if The Right Stuff is an epic. But I think it is.

Anyway, great soundtrack. Bill Conti's best. And I'm looking at you, Rocky. The selection "Breaking the Sound Barrier" is amazing.

Is 2001 "epic"? Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Blue Danube, Atmospheres and Lux Aeterna are fantastic.

As a side note, KUT's Eclecticos show once played a track with HAL's dialogue over a Brian Eno track. It was awesome.

I third "Gladiator" by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard (even though Zimmer probably plagerized Holst's "Mars, Bringer of War.")

"The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy has some "epic" music by Howard Shore.

"The Insider" Soundtrack, produced by Lisa Gerrard/Pieter Bourke, is my darkhorse.

Just about all of the music from the 1989 Kenneth Branaugh version of "Henry V" is excellent. I listen to that CD in the mornings at work. I'd also recommend the soundtrack from "The Mission".
