I have a stopover in Munich this upcoming Sunday. My Lufthansa flight lands in Munich around 7amish. My United flight departs Monday around noon. Any ideas for things to do? I've thought about taking the train down to Garmisch for the day to see a friend, then leave Garmisch at 6am the next morning. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Stay in Munich. there is a grand kempinski hotel about 200 yards walk from Hoffbrau Haus. There is great shipping and dining and hot woman all around that area. The trip out to Garmisch is a nice idea, but will take longer than you think via train. It is beautiful out there, but I would stay in Munchen and soak it up. Have your friend come in and meet you.

ive done the 24 hours in Munchen before, when it was my girls first time there. I ahve a bro that lives there so I cant recommend any hotels for you, but can say somet higns to do.

First check out downtown, nice clock tower, walk the main street. Good atmosphere etc. You will find things to do in the town (you can climb the clocktower if you want). the Hofbrau, personally, is too touristy and pricey. I have had fun tehre, but it was mainly because I was drinking heavily and looking for people to talk to. Their beer isnt the best. My personal thign is the schneider weisse bierhaus near the main square, through the arch area and they have a good restaurant also.

If you go in summer and are younger, you could try the Mikes Bike tour, they give you a tour and take you to a bierhal and the englisher gardens. There are some other historic crap you could do also....

The museum LoneStar speaks about is really good if you like technical stuff. Hoffbrau Haus is a must, touristy, but you should go there. You could do a quick trip to Dachau. Interesting but depressing.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I am going to take the advice and stay in town and meet up with my friend there. The technical museum sounds pretty cool! I'm also going to try to take some of the sites downtown. Thanks again

The Augustiener Brau is also a great place to go to drink beer. Look up some of the previous posts on Munich for lots of other ideas.

if you are going over summer though, ignore my recomendation as far as restaurants and find a bier garten outside and eat there. Hell there is one near the downtown area that has a bunch of stalls that sell good food and tables for enjoying beer

When I was there I hopped on a open air bus tour that did a quick and dirty 2 hour tour that hit went by most of the major sites in the city. It was not too hard to find. There are a lot of sites to see in the city center that you can just go to and hang out like Hoffbrau Haus, Augustiner, the Glockenspiel, the old cathedral with 2 towers. Look into renting a fast car and take a spin on the autobahn.
