Multi-Region DVD player - Is this a good deal?

Hello all,

I am trying to buy a DVD player that plays every region of DVD. There is a deal at Vulcan Video off of Guadalupe here in Austin where they are selling some for $90 and I would like to know if it is a good deal. The specs are as follows...

SPECS
____________________________________________________
it is a ...Philips DVP5982 1080 HDMI High Def Player

-plays every region DVD

-HDMI 1080P with true high def. video upconversion

-192 KHZ / 24-Bit Audio DAC

-Plays almost everything: CD, (S)VCD, DVD, DVD-R/RX, DVD+R/RW, DIVX, MP3, WMA, and JPEG digital photos

-USB direct: you can play photos and music from USB flash drives

-asking price... $90

SPECS EXPLAINED (if you understand the specs, skip this)
----------------------------------------------------

If you do not know what these specs mean, in English, from what the guy told me they mean that...

-there are multiple regions for DVDs which means that you cannot watch a Region 1 DVD from USA or Canada on an Asian or European or Australian, etc. DVD player. Each part of the world belongs to a region and you need the correct compatability between DVD and player to watch a DVD. I like foreign movies, or sometimes foreign releases of movies that have more extras and special features, and this is why I want a multi-region DVD player.

-this DVD player up-converts the picture of a normal DVD closer to that of a high defenition image, as viewable on a 1080P High Def TV.

-it also plays nearly every other type of digital media there is. For example, you can burn a DVD data disk of all these videos and movies and shows in the form of DATA, not in the form of an insert-and-play DVD, and you can still surf the data on the disk and play the individual media. Among other things, that is.

At Vulcan Video they said that this can be bought in stores, but the store-bought ones will not play multi-region DVD's.

Is this worth the price given all that this DVD player does?

And whether or not THIS particular deal is worth the price, are there better options for players that play every region without all the extras that this one has? Thanks a lot in advance, guys.

Hook 'Em!!!!!!

There are some models sold in other stores that are multi region. A friend bought one that was not listed as being one but based on research he had done online (and checked his info twice just in case) he knew it was. It is.

I don't know how much he paid for it but just do a google search to find models that are able to play all regions and then their price at a few places. If it is within a few bucks, buy at Vulcan and keep your money in Austin with a local store.
