MP3 Player for Dummies?

Hello fellow posters? I just purchased my first MP3 player, but I dont know how to use it! I need advice first of all, on what site that I can go to download free music and also how do I go about doing it(downloading), unless it is self explained at that site. I just need someone to walk me through it.

What type is it? If you don't have a manual for it I suggest inputting the brand and model into youtube. Also places like C/Net have reviews and demo's.

Make sure it syncs up with your computer if you have an Apple product going with a Windows product. There are downloads for that. Find them if they apply.

Are you using itunes as your interface or Windows Media Player? Get the latest update.

I suggest getting a cd you own and rip it and then transfer it. Using just the cord that connects it to your USB drive should be enough to walk you through it. If not, make sure you are using your main USB port and not a hub. My player did not charge or work right on the hubs but when put into the main one it worked like a charm.

You can download just about any manual in pdf form and print if need be. Hope any of this helps but knowing what you have is key.

I have a similar question. I bought my son an iPOD awhile back. After I download music, I transfer it over to iTunes on my computer. When my son wants to sync, his iPOD syncs with everything in the iTunes library. What is the best way organize the music, so that his iPOD only syncs with the music that he is interested in? Right now it syncs with everything.

Make playlists and only link to those? Is there a setting to auto sync to everything that can be changed? Maybe it is a default. Maybe when downloading something you can designate it into a certain folder or playlist.

Thanks for the help. He is visiting with his grandparents this week. I'll look into your suggestions when he returns on Monday. Do you think the autosync limits are on the iPOD itself or on iTunes for Vista?

I don't know, I don't have an ipod. I had itunes but dropped it for WMP as it was easier to sync up with my mp3 player. I did not like having to get programs to sync with Apple. There may be an option in the sync functions.
