moving etiquette

I am using a moving company and was wondering if I should tip the movers when they are done and if so, how much?

Also, I'm using Mustang Movers....has anyone heard of them or used them? Thanks.

Tip them if they do a good job. Make sure to let them know ahead of time that you will take care of them if they take care of your stuff. Also, I would recommend having water and sandwiches or some kind of snack/light meal (if it is a long move) for them.

Had a couple of guys move my stuff. They did a pretty good job and the total was like $320. I tipped them $40. I dont know if thats good or not.

I gave them water bottles too. It was like 106 that day. glad it wasnt me.

When they get there have a cooler full of water and some snacks, then around 11a or so let them know you are going to order a pizza and ask what kind they like.

Just remember they are picking up and carrying your items that are not made to be moved. Also, like my grand father always said "it doesn't cost anything to be nice".

Then if they do a good job when they are done you can tip.

So what you're saying is that one is supposed to receive a tip if they are getting paid already for a service. I mean, come on, I'm paying you for your services, why do I have to tip?

Of course I tip the waiter. Does that mean I need to tip the mailman, the lawn mower guy, the mechanic, and the cashier at Wal-Mart. I work hard too. No one throwing any money my way. Oh, and by the way, I use the drive thru at Sonic.

All I am saying is that if you are nice up front and let them know that you are "one of the guys" and not some snob who thinks their sh!t don't stink (remember who your audience is) then they will take better care of your furniture. and i don't care how much you paid for it, it was not made to be moved.

Thanks for the advice guys. I moved yesterday and everything went really well...didnt have anything break. The guys were nice and got a great tip.

Those guys get paid nothing. Marshall (Put_Simms_In) told me he usually started them out around $10 - $12 per hour. That's what I pay babysitters to watch Oprah and keep my kids from choking on Doritos.

I'm sorry, but a long day of hauling my crap is worth a lot more than $120. I try to tip each guy on the crew $20 - $30 per day and buy them lunch, gatorade, and then beers after work. Amazingly, things rarely get damaged.
