I find it interesting that when God created Adam and Eve - ie, a perfect world - that Adam didn't have a mother in law. Further, the world's first mother in law ended up being the person that ruined mankind.
My husband never got to meet his mother-in-law -- my mother died before we met.
His mother is a very sweet woman, and I love her, but I don't like her very much. Her life is a constant pity party for herself. Talking with her on the phone is a chore, because she repeats everything several times and is talking about how sick she is or how she's got a toothache or how she just can't seem to get out of bed.
It's really a pain. Like I said, we love her but we don't like her very much.
Shadowdancer would have loved my mother, though. My mom was quirky and interesting, and a whole lot of fun. Plus she could make delicious mayonnaise and a mean margarita.
Hmmmm...my MIL is not nice...I married her son and I doubt anyone would be good enough for him...what a laugh! Good thing I am getting divorced and she won't be my MIL anymore...
As evidenced by the couple of posters on this thread that I am pretty sure are female, I think this depends on if we are talking about the MIL of the groom or the MIL of the bride. I think most men probably get along well with their MIL. Women, not so much.
