What would y'all say that the busiest, most trafficked domestic air route is? What about the one served by the most airlines? New York to Chicago? LA to NYC?

I would say something like

Chicago - NY
Dallas - Chicago
or
Chicago - LAX

Mainly becuase transcons can only have a couple flights a day due to the time difference and the way airlines have to set their schedules.

I found it surprising that Honolulu to Kahului had so many people. It was #13 and had more than a lot of other major routes.

I also thought it was weird that NYC-Ft. Lauderdale had over twice as many as NYC to Miami.

That is a very interesting question DML, and very interesting link.

I would have never thought Ft. Laud. would get so many people from NY. Unless it's a hub?

Based on the number of flights, the busiest in the world flip-flops between Barcelona-Madrid and Sao Paolo-Rio. That's going to change next year, however, when the high-speed train links Barcelona and Madrid. The train between Madrid and Seville (which also takes about 2.5 hours) now has about 80% market share.

And for the record, it operates at a significant loss, which is subsidized by Spanish taxpayers.

Well, Lauderdale has Southwest, which services ISLIP, and LGA through ATA.

Lauderdale is heavy on continental.

Most Snowbirds dont come to Miami, they are Hollywood and North, so that would be a closer airport.

Flights are generally cheaper (90%) of the time from there.

I just paid 110 ROUND TRIP to NYC from Miami, and I could pick the times I wanted to come and go.

It doesn't surprise me...

wow.....if you group the S. Florida Airports together its over 7Million unreal.....basically FLL is the center of that market with MIA 45 min or so south and West Palm is 45 min or so north

I've taken both the NY/Miami and NY/Lauderdale flights more often than I can count. Both are amazingly stereotypical experiences. NY/Miami is about 60% hispanic, and NY/Lauderdale is 60% jewish, and 80% over the age of 65.
