Was driving down guadalupe near the Wheatsville and noticed that they have some new marketing **** they are trying in that area. They had some banners on the streetlights that said somthing like "IBZ" and something about a local business district. Anyways, got me thinking, and that strip right there between Daya and Taco Shack is pretty dense with locally owned restaurants and shops.

Locals:
Wheatsville
Thundercloud
Mangia
BurgerTex
Toms Tabouli
Trudy's
Centennial liquor
That noodle house
The mexican food joint
Taco Shack
Buffalo exchange?
Toy Joy
That Thai joint
Ruby's
Milto's
Daya
The cleaners
I heart video
Ballet Austin
Spider House
Antone's
Changos
Ozone
That gay bookstore

Chains:
Supercuts
CVS
Subway?

I am probably forgetting a few on both sides, but still a pretty dense 3 or so blocks of local fare. What are some competing 3 or 4 block sections of Austin. I imagine a couple places on congress could beat out that list.

I think you pretty much covered everything except El Patio. Pretty cool how the locally owned places are still staying strong even despite the constant development in the downtown/campus area.

I'm pretty sure Crown & Anchor and Posse East are more than 2-3 blocks from those other places.

The longer I live in Austin, the more I grow to love Burnet Road for this very reason. Aside from the gas stations, it seems like the whole damn thing is local.

yeah posse is on duval and ... san jacinto? and crown & anchor is on san jacinto too if i have that right ... in any event, several blocks off guadalupe
