Most durable luggage

Some years ago we bought some Samsonite luggage that was supposedly their top-of-the-line, but handles and wheels and pull straps are breaking off prematurely. I used the search function here on HornFans and read old threads that seemed to heartily endorse Tumi luggage. Consumer Reports rated carry-on bags and gave Tumi the number one slot. But Tumi also seems to be the most expensive. You get what you pay for, so I'll pony up if need be, but before I make the purchase can any posters give me feedback about Tumi and, hopefully, less expensive brands? I'm interested in large luggage pieces, the type that one must check, not carry-ons. Thanks! (and ou still sucks)

I don't know about "best", Doc, but I've got a swiss-army branded dealie that I bought. It's been abused by many a baggage handler, and still looks good and functions perfectly. Real heavy-duty zippers, etc.
