Israeli intelligence agencies have worked up an intelligence assessment that Iran has not yet decided whether to begin a military program to construct a nuclear warhead. Put in other words, Mossad believes that there is no current Iranian nuclear weapons program.



“The intelligence assessment Israeli officials will present later this week to Dempsey indicates that Iran has not yet decided whether to make a nuclear bomb. The Israeli view is that while Iran continues to improve its nuclear capabilities, it has not yet decided whether to translate these capabilities into a nuclear weapon – or, more specifically, a nuclear warhead mounted atop a missile. Nor is it clear when Iran might make such a decision.”


I'd say the fact that Iran isn't working on a nuclear device is a pretty important revelation, wouldn't you? Lame thread? It's no "Biden said "Giants" when he should have said "49'ers" and therefore he's dumb" thread, but still important in its own right.



This is the same conclusion to which the 16 US intelligence agencies have come to in various reports issued from 2007-2010.

You may not have known that most intel has never said Iran was " building" a nuke but the rest of us were.
Many experts say Iranians are improving enrichment beyond what is needed for nuke energy.
That scientist wasn't killed because he was working on a marron carrot.

Clearly it is not the case that the Israelis believe that Iran has no desire and attendant plan for a nuclear weapon.

They are trying to calm the air after whacking an Iranian scientist -- a little carrot.

The statements seem to make it clear that the US and Israel are in communication mode about the situation and feel a wait and see approach is best for the moment. This seems to be in part due to a sense that Iran and it's current regime may be feeling domestic resistance to continuing down the nuclear path.

I don't think Israel really wants to attack Iran, but a nuclear Iran, while not necessarily a house of mad men bent on attacking Israel, would seriously reset the power balance in the Middle East, and Israel would be the big loser.

Still, the Israeli cant at this point doesn't really help anyone trying to sound alarms about the Obama administration's actions to date. Then again, the current line up of politicos arrayed against Obama are clown car rejects that aspire to cartoon status and nothing more.
