Mosquito Magnet

Does it work?

I have a small area in the backyard with a pool, probably 30' x 20' that backs up to the living room with two dogs. Many times with the doors open to let the dogs in and out, we get a ton of mosquitos outside and inside the house. That needs to stop, so I have been considering installing a spray system that kills the mosquitos and the eggs, but its pretty expensive. If the Mosquito Magnet works, I'd definitely prefer that as an alternative.

Any reviews/comments would be appreciated.

I have one and it seems to work great. My yard is big and has lots of trees and bushes. Before I got the Mosquito Magnet the mosquitos would swarm me as soon as I went out on the deck. Now, I should tell you that I do still see some mosquitos but they are nowhere near what I had before.

I always wondered the same thing. I think I will buy two, one for each side of my yard so there isn't the crossover effect. They do use attractant, so you have to take that into account.

I chose not to use the attractant since it actually repels the Asian Tiger mosquitoes. I could probably use another one for the other side of my yard. I guess I'll see how it does over the course of this year and decide from there.

If you do use some type of attractant make sure that you put it in a far corner of your yard. Most people I know make the mistake of putting it somewhere relatively close to the back deck. All that does is attrach the bugs to you.

A friend of ours has a spray system that works great. Not sure of the brand or cost though. In all the times we've been in their yard, I'm not sure I've ever seen any mosquitos.

a friend of mine opened a mosquito nix in houston (www.mosquitonix.com). if you're interested, i could get you the name, #.

How much are the systems y'all are mentioning?

Are they similar to www.palmpools.net/Mosquito.htm

The guy who started building my pool left and started this company and now offers this mosquito spraying system...but its pretty damn expensive...probably in the $1,000-2,000 range for my relatively small backyard.
