mortgage interest deduction without itemizing?

thought I saw this on the tube a couple of hours ago. Not sure, but I they teased saying something like a $500 or $1000 deduction if you don't itemize. I'm not itemizing this year, I itemize every other year, so I can pay both years property taxes in the same calendar year.

If you don't itemize but pay real estate taxes, you get an additional $500 standard deduction if single, $1,000 if married.

thanks, that must have been it. interesting the code seems to moving away from itemized deductions. I wonder if(when) they might consider letting standard deduction people deduct sales taxes as well?
