More pool help

I was trying to test out the spa the other day and had all the valves set up for spa only and turned on the heat.

It came on and got it up to 78 and then went off. The guy I bought the house from said the spa goes up to 104. When I went to open the valves back the pool, the heater came on? My guess is thermostat since it came back on with some cooler water. Any advice?

PS the diving board cleaning with shock worked great

nevermind-- I reversed the thermostat wires since the spa thermostat was out. Instead I used the pool thermostat for the spa. Gave it a whirl tonight-- wow-- 104 the whole time
