More grass help needed -Bermuda

I live in Midland, so the climate's pretty dry, certainly much different than Houston. I have Bermuda in my front yard. I've managed to kill it all off under the two big Pecan trees and big pine, despite the fact that the previous owner managed to keep it looking great (probably had something to do with fact that he was retired and spent all day on the lawn and I do well to get it watered every other week). Any suggestions on how to fill in the shaded areas other than with some shade tolerant ground cover?

Zoysia is only somewhat more shade tolerant than bermuda. It would seem to me that Midland is a bit too cold in the winter for St. Augustine but maybe not.
