"- Americans who were recipients of means-tested government benefits in 2011 outnumbered year-round full-time workers, according to data released this month by the Census Bureau. - See more at:The Link

Anyone think this is good for our country OR sustainable?

I do not think people realize how serious a problem this really is for the future of our country. The really scary thing is that democrats have figured out how to get these idiots to the polls.

Add free health insurance into the mix, and there is no stopping this snowball rolling downhill.

Just google EBT cards and watch the youtube videos. Time to arm yourself.

I agree and what is really scary is how many able voided people there are living entirely on our money.

BO ( and others including Pubs but it has exploded under BO)has made it so easy to live a life that hundreds of millions of people around the world would consider luxurious, live this life without doing a thing?

so it is not only bad for our economy but it is not good for the people, who would disagree with me I am sure.
Why do a " menial job" that might be hard work when you can get money added to your EBT every month and do nothing

This is exactly why dems/libs get elected. You can't beat Santa Claus. No nation can survive a trend like this if it's not reversed.

Yup, when Obama was re-elected, I knew that the US was on borrowed time. Too many entitled takers that expect someone else to take care of them. It is only a matter of time until this house of cards implodes.

What's the answer? Trim government bennies? What about the full-time worker that still qualifies for government bennies (i.e. fast food workers and a significant number of Walmart employees)? I don't believe in unionizing but I also see a problem with accelerating income gap in the last 30 years. I say this as a top 3%'er in income according to the IRS.

I'm not worried for myself and teach my kids the value of hard work learned from a grandfather that founded the Teamsters in Nebraska. I also see a game rigged towards the uber-wealthy and elite class of citizens. Most work hard for their wealth but the value they offer often isn't as great as the compensation. It also seems the market fails to adequately punish poor performers too with "golden parachutes".

I'm torn as any fiscal conservative - social liberal would be. Society needs to have a safety net to catch those that fall but the limit of time someone gets the help.

I've been fortunate enough never to need government help since entering my career and I know unemployment is time limited so I struggle to understand the perception that there is a permanent underclass leaching the government indefinitely.

Are there leaches? Absolutely. There will be a small minority of individuals who will always game the system. Is that the majority as inferred by many here? I'm not that cynical, yet.
