Professor Robert Solomon (Philosophy) who used to teach at UT before he passed away, used his own books for class. He would then take some of the money he earned to buy a couple kegs of beer for the class and host a party. Great Professor, great class.
About time. I've got two shelves full of law books right behind me which cost about 100 each and were made worthless because some greedy **** changed one paragraph so he could create a new edition. I think I'm gonna mail them back to their respective authors. Not like I'm ever gonna open any of them again anyways.
I had a couple of profs in the history dept who would pick out sections from several books and have the coop copy and bind them to save us money. Lamphear was one of the professors who did it.
