Monster cable

Are monster cables the way to go for component video/audio or HDMI? Mercy, some of their product is really expensive. My cablemart.com really has some good prices. I was wondering if it was because the product was a cheap, unreliable line.

I'm having problems with my new Directv HD DVR. My video/audio keeps going out of sync. I'm curious if it was the HDMI, because my input through my cable comp, (red/blue/green) works fine.

thanks

Unless you're the most hardcore of videophiles, you will not see a discernable difference between a Monster cable and a generic one.

Go here.

As for the reason your audio and video are getting out-of-sync, I haven't a clue, but I doubt it's a cabling issue. When this happens to me, I try pausing the DVR and unpausing it about 2 seconds later. It works for me.

Agreed that it's probably not your HDMI cable. If the pause trick above doesn't work, try power cycling the DVR and TV and see if that fixes it.

I'm pretty sure I read an article somewhere that compared Monster Cable to many other cheaper brands... and for the money, Monster was amongst the worst. In fact, some of the cheaper cables flat out performed Monster.

Just turn off the DVR and the TV and turn them back on. If that doesn't do it, try unplugging both of them and then plugging them back in and turning them on. The reason it may make a difference is that there is additional digital circuitry involved in the HDMI path that doesn't exist in the analog path and it's possible something got out of sync in that digital path. Whenever my DVR gets flaky a power cycle always fixes it.

thanks brntorng.....

I'm having to reset my receiver everyday. I guess it's no big deal, but I shouldn't have to do it everyday. I've tried the pause method, but it doesn't cure it. I talked to Directv and they said they would replace the DVR free, but it would have to be a refurbished receiver. So, technically, I would have to buy another DVR for it to be new.

Oh well.......another case of me not being happy with directv. BTW, I got this DVR free, didn't even have to pay the $100 installation fee. Should have figured directv would send me a POS DVR.....

There's an easy way to tell if a DVR is a POS:

If it doesn't have a TiVo logo on the front, you have a POS.

This letter always cracks me up. Apparently Monster tried to sick a bunch of lawyers on the owner of Blue Jean Cables claiming that Blue Jean infringed on some of their patents.

There was a link form another site (Consumerist maybe?0 where someone hooked up coat hanger wire to some connectors and then did some blind tests to Monster cables. No one could tell the difference.
