Hey guys. I know a lot of you guys use monoprice and it works great. Just wanted to let you know that their site has been compromised and if you have have a credit card on file with them you better check your statement as there have been a lot of bad charges out there on them.

Just got a call from my credit card company. $4k at ticket master and several other charges. They didn't say it was monoprice.com but I ordered a cable last week.

I almost ordered something from them a couple of weeks ago but a friend of mine had what I was looking for and I got the item for free.

I have a separate and free checking account with my bank only for online transactions. I don't use it for anything else. I call my bank and they transfer an exact amount of money to that account. I then use the debit card that I keep in a drawer at the computer desk to pay for the item. The account is not allowed to be used if there is not any money in it unlike some checking accounts with over draft.

I pay bills, buy plane tickets and a host of other things with it. Each transaction results in a zero balance or mere pennies. It is things like this story that make me glad I take that little step of extra caution. Somebody can hack into my computer to get that card number and do squat with it.

It makes watching my primary account much easier or so it seems. Some of you may benefit from doing this. It takes a couple of moments but the peace of mind is worth it so far. If something did somehow go haywire I would not be out any money until it was resolved.

Monoprice has some unbelievable prices though. I bought a cable from them (one of several I needed) to connect my Mac to a big screen TV. The cable was 73 cents, and the quality is good.

Altogether I ordered 3 cables for about $5, and with shipping the total was about $11. At Best Buy one of these cables would have been wrapped in about two pounds of plastic and sold for $9.99 at least

I would totally buy things from them but I would use my internet debit card for safety.
