I'm planning a mountain biking trip to Moab in October with a couple of buddies. Anybody ever been? We are not what you would call "experts" but we definitely want to have some fun on the bike.

We're staying at a house in the town of Moab. Any recommendations on lodging?

Do we need car?

How hard is it to get to trails?

Are there trails within riding distance of town?

How's the shuttle service?

Before anyone asks, we're going before the big "24 housr of Moab" thingy.

thanks

Passed through Moab on our way to Arches National Park and Canyonlands NP.

******* cool little town. Can't remember the bar we went to, but it was cool as ****. Moab's really tiny so you won't have a hard time at all finding all the cool stores, pubs, and resturants.

Did a quick tripadvisor search. The Moab Brewery was the place...don't miss it.The Link

Also...things to do...The Link

You're ******* up if you don't go to Canyonlands National Park or Arches NP....both excellent.

october, eh? man, i would be wary of the weather, just be aware that it could be anywhere from like 80 degrees to 40. i think. i've only been out to moab in the summer, but have spent a lot of time in the surrounding areas, and the temperature varies wildly.

the biking is incredible. are you using guides or just hitting the trails? if you want equipment or guides, i recommend These guys as they've always done me right.

also, ride slickrock at the end of your trip, after you've gotten your bike legs. it's a rad trail. seriously. it's famous for a reason.

i've always been there with a car, and it makes it really easy.

Another vote for Canyonlands. That place is amazing.

Arches is very cool too, but it's more of a drive-through park, at least from my experience.

I think Utah could have been the coolest state ever if the Mormons hadn't settled there first.
