I say why, why, tell them that its human nature.

(im ******* crying yes 35 yr old white guy. i was 10 when thriller came out)

I was never an MJ fan, although I did see him live with his brothers at Texas Stadium once. And while his legacy will be tarnished, there is no denying the man had an incredible talent. He was a brilliant performer.

Totally agree that Human Nature was a great song....although being 26 I didn't really "find" that song until many years after I'd already owned the Thriller CD.

For me, going back to my age again, my first Michael song was really Black or White....In fact I just got done watching the video again on YouTube. That song is so great on so many different levels and it introduced me to Michael. I'd also say that around the time that he released Bad was the last time Michael looked semi-normal...Wasnt too pale...Face wasnt gaunt...Seemed to work out.

Of his earlier vocals, I always liked the exuberance of "I Want You Back."

And I think "Billie Jean" is about as good as pop songs get.

His performance of that song on a MoTown anniversary TV show was one of the more exciting and entertaining things I've ever seen.

That was the first time I saw him moonwalk and maybe the first time I saw him perform as an adult.

Very entertaining.

I still enjoy playing "Billie Jean's" cool bass line, that's almost like the one on Billy Ocean's "Caribbean Queen," when we do it at gigs.

He has other songs I like too, but those are my favorites from the King of Pop.

Michael with Quincy Jones arranging and producing and Greg Phillinganes on keyboards made some great pop music on "Thriller," etc.

I appreciate arrangements and hooks and Michael's music always features those.

8^)

RIP

Never Can Say Goodbye. I was in junior high, and the first time I heard it, it was a rainy day. It evokes emotion every time I hear it.

I can't believe he's gone.

Off The Wall was my favorite album but Thriller got the most use and play work wise. Phenomenal stuff and hard to choose. I know the ones people will throw out so I will come up with another one some may pass by.

Remember The Time.

Great video. Iman, Eddie Murphy, Magic, and Co. The music starts at about 3:30. Fantastic song. Fantastic performer. Magician. Michael.

Got Me Working Day & Night and Don't Stop Till You Get Enough. If you aren't tapping your foot even just a little during these songs, you officially have no pulse.

I remember watching the Jackson Five on the Perry Como Show. Perry would always point out the youngest member of the group and talk about how he stole the show, and would be a big star one day. Destined for greatness from an early age, there may never be another pop culture icon as big as Michael Jackson.
Undeniably a strange and flawed character, but equally undeniably talented as a song writer, vocalist and dancer. Some of the videos kicked off MTV as an entertainment channel, and the Jackson Five saved Motown Records for awhile. Thriller was the best selling U.S. album of all time, although I read it is now in second place behind an Eagles' Greatest Hits album.
I'll admit to owning the Thriller cd, and attempting to moon walk a few times, probably not the only person around here, either.
How can you beat Thriller, Billy Jean, or Black or White as pop songs? What video beats Thriller, Black or White or Beat It? The guy was huge in pop music, have to admit that much.

I was starting my sophmore year in high school when "Off the Wall" came out. That album played at every party I went to for the next 2 or 3 years.

I don't think it's a stretch to say, but having a bunch of white kids (for me in Houston) get so involved with a black artist probably advanced race relations to some degree.

This August 10th will mark the 30-year anniversary of its release.

Man, all the songs you all are listing are reminding me of how good he was. Anyone of these songs would have been a career-topper for 99% of musicians.

Off the Wall reminds me of my post college single days in N. Dallas... MJ is indeed a music legend. RIP MJ

Dude was a superstar for 39 years and sold over 750 Million records worldwide.

Those two numbers absolutley floor me....I mean they floor me.

Whats insane is that you can look at his music from the Jackson 5 days to his disco music of the late 70's, to his stuff in the 80's 90's and even early part of this decade and its all fantastic.

I think why his death has effected so many people was that the guy was great for so many years that a very large age range of people grew up jamming to his music.

You are talking about people from probably age 20 to about 60 if not even higher. Not too many artists have a following that has that sort of age range.

Im an 80's baby and I definitly remember Thriller and Bad and all that.
My mom says that Jackson 5 and MJ's stuff that came out inthe late 70's were what everyone was jamming at any party when she was in her 20's.

My favorite MJ songs are Dont Stop till you get enough, and Wanna be Starting Something.

I love the Jackson 5 stuff. Im only 20 years old, so I was too young for most of the time MJ was at the peak of his game. However, my generation still understands and respects him and his music.

I love "Ill be there" and "Dirty Diana".

And Im not sure if anyone cares but they are Re-Airing the American Idol episode from this season's Michael Jackson week. It was a great episode. It was all top 13 contestants... And it airs TONIGHT!!!

I love Idol, so ill be watching it. I suggest others who want to hear some MJ songs to do so as well...

Litnin - thanks for finding that gem! I remember when it was on originally! Don't think I missed too many CB shows, they were great. Everyone watched anytime J5 were on TV to see what their outfits were. Always the talk of lunch the next day!

To the OP - My favorite MJ songs I think are Never Can Say Goodbye and Man in the Mirror. I do like this skit though!

Thriller has sold over 109 MILLION copies. The next biggest album of all-time is in the 40's. Lets put that in perspective. The Steelers have 6 Super Bowls, if Thriller was an NFL team, it would have 13.

Michael Jackson put out 7 solo albums and 5 of them sold over 20 million copies. To put that in prospective, The Beatles had over 20 albums and only three of theirs sold over 20 million.

There are atleast 10 songs by him as a solo artist that can be interchanged in my Top 5 and then the same can be said for the Jackson 5.

Thriller will never be topped, it is truly a record that cannot be broken. Michael Jackson, The Beatles and Elvis are pretty much the three biggest musical acts in history. That is high praise.

Its probably not common, but to me, Invincible was some of his best stuff, and still managed to go Platinum without a tour or promotion. I still have CD in rotation to this day;

Uncle Ernie. No, wait.

I thought early Jackson 5 (I want you back) was decent motown pop. The rest of MJ I lump with the dredge of disco. It aint rock and roll.

Wierd Al Yankovic's send up of "Beat It" topped MJ's.

Sorry, MJ lovers. It ain't rock and roll.
