Mizzou Regents Vote for Option to Bolt

So... in effect.. .we would again be.... the Big 8?

Hands down my thoughts now are just get a group of teams that really want to be here. The same way UT recruits players who really want to be here.

There should be no lack of finding programs that appreciate, and would be grateful
to play in, a quality conference based on more than ... whatever the hell it is that these programs feel they are lacking in life and have to go make up for.

Didn't someone on tv the other day mention there are 57 players on Missouri's roster from the State of Texas? They rely on this state for players but don't want to be in a conference with the
main university from that state because of.... ?unfair competition?... for... the players FROM that state that Missouri can't do without?...

Daytime soap opera stuff.

Actually KU is like us in that they have a multi million dollar contract for their 3rd tier rights, and aren't going to want to give that up unless they absolutely have to.

How will they ever get players we pass on, if they can't promise them that they'll get the chance to lose to us in the future?

With Mizzou gone, the Big-12 is toast for all intents and purposes!
The only thing that will keep Mizzou fro bolting would be high exit fees. The Conference seriously needs to play hardball with aggy and mizzou on the exit fees.

The conference has nothing to lose so play hardball on the exit fees, make them 20 million +.

Time for Baylor to bring out the lawsuit again!

The sad but undeniable fact is Baylor and Texas are the only schools that really, really want the Big 12 to survive.

Its too late to save the Big-12, Tx needs to start giving serious consideration the any other conference, now! Even the SEC, although that would not be my first choice.

Amazing how one little network has caused so much havoc. And this just the beginning. ESPN or Fox could really rile things up even more by offering Florida its own Gator Network! Wow would that be huge!

The writing has been on the wall for the Big XII for a long time...Mizzou's board's action only serves to confirm the obvious. This conference has less shelf life left than milk.

DeLoss Dodds needs to do what is expedient for the Horns. If that means making some concessions with the LHN to find a suitable conference home, then do it. The Big XII has been coming apart at the seams for over a year, and no amount of bubble gum and bailing wire is going to buy another two or three years for it.

The SEC is virtually no option for UT, barring a seismic shift in UT's attitude toward that conference. I'm pretty sure any chance of heading to the PAC is over and done with. That means two options, the B1G or the ACC. Neither is a perfect fit, but either is infinitely better than being stuck in a conference that's taking on water faster than the Titanic.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I do NOT want to hear any heroic speeches out of Belmont Hall about preferring to stay in a viable Big XII. There is NO viable Big XII, and it's time for UT to fish or cut bait.

I assume this means the SEC to balance out A&M. Is there is an outside chance Missouri and Kansas could go to the B1G as a pair?

The amazing shrinking conference.

Its interesting that Mizzou has given no deadline when it will make its decision. So basically keeping the Big-12 drama alive for months potentially.
The Big-12 needs to give Mizzou a deadline to make up its mind. Keeping things hanging like this only helps Mizzou and keeps the Big-12 in limbo.

Lots of over reaction... If they want to goet them... It's Missouri. The big 12 can find replacements that want to stay. Listen to Dan wetzels podcast.. all will be fine in big daddy deloss' hands...

Missouri is just hurting themselves..

What do you propose, general35, cancel the remainder of the football schedule? Cancel the basketball schedule?

I mean, com'on guys, MU doing nothing different than many other schools. They aren't some evil conspiracy.

The B12 is simply being torn apart by two superior football conferences. Texas wasn't enough to hold the conference together.

Now it's time for Texas to look out for its own best interests, and that means B1G, SEC, or PAC. Cut our best deal and be done. It's that simple.

Texas is strong enough. So Missouri goes to the SEC, big deal, if the Big 12 brings in Louisville, they become Missouri or even better. As long as Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma state, Texas Tech, Kansas stay together the Big 12 will be fine.

Actually no, I wasn't referring to the PAC. No, not the PAC.

I was referring to the B1G and the SEC.

CU did go to the PAC, it's true, but there are some very good reasons for that.

No, it's the B1G and the SEC that are savaging the B12. They are both much superior to the B12.

But the PAC is not superior, I will grant you that.

No decent school/Program wants to be in the Big 12. The attempts to rationalize TCU or UH or Louisville are a joke. Every good program besides Texas wants out or has already left, including OU.

The LHN better be the greatest thing since sliced bread because Dodds fetish with it has relegated UT to an 8 team wannabe C-USA.

All this means is that Big 12 needs to add two teams instead of one. Big deal. If we add TCU and don't play Aggy we will be set. Here's what we have:
Games in Austin, Dallas, Waco, Fort Worth Lubbock, e.g. Mama gets to see her kids play.
We keep the LHN and what is potentially a huge cash cow
We keep our rivalry with OU and can play for a NC
We don't have to play a confernce championship game.
If we schedule Rice home and home we get a game in Houston every two years
Add an annual game with Notre Dame and we have a great schedule - OU, OSU, Notre Dame, Tech, TCU
All the other sports get to have local rivalries and less travel

Huge recruiting advantage vis a vis aggy. Play local, be seen on LHN, have a chance for NC.

We are in great shape folks.

Moderators... can you move this thread. This stuff ruins my day and night. I stay off "In The Stands" to keep away from it. Then I get dragged into it here "On The Field" and soon I'm sick again. Thanks!

Mizzou hasn't said they're leaving, just that they are still looking around. As long as they (and A&M) pay their full exit fee, we should just tell them where to mail their check.

We should have a contest to rename the Big 12 conference. My submissions are:

The Big 8 v2 Conference

The Not-So-Big IIX Conference

The Seven Year Itch Conference

P.S. I think it would be hilarious to see Boren get on a plane and fly to Mizzou to try to convince them to remain in the conference.
