Mizzou looking to step up its recruiting

Just hired former LSU recruiting coordinator Josh Henson as its new co-offensive line coach. Forget the title - it looks to me like he's being brought in for one purpose - to recruit athletes in the South.

Smart move. If they can just pick up the guys in South Texas and Lousiana that are left from UT and LSU a pretty salty team can be put on the field.

I think they kind of peaked. They're going back down again and will maybe rise again in a couple years.

Hmmm, little concerned about introducing SEC style recruiting into the B12...if you know what I mean.

Mizzou picked up some pretty good recruits this year.

Blaine Dalton
Sheldon Richison<<#4 recruit int he nation per rivals
Josh Tatum<<JuCo linebacker that will step right in
Kendial Lawrence

They also have a pretty salty JuCo running back who is interested in signing.

I think Mizzou has the best chance to continue success out of all of the teams in the north. Nebraska will be up this year, but I think Pinkel and co. will turn Mizzou into a contender as long as he is with the Tigers.

Given that they are competing against UT, OU, Tech, Baylor, LSU -- and dare I say, even aggy -- for athletes in Texas, how do they plan to accomplish this? Sure, they may cherry-pick a few kids from Texas as they have over the past few years. But it strikes me that there is already a LOT of competition from schools that are closer to home than Mizzou.

Now given that the State of Missouri is home to two rather sizable cities, I would tend to agree that there is no reason (aside from questionable head coaching) that they should not be among the premier teams from the north, year in and out.

So, it's your lack of familiarity with the talent that Wingo played around that makes you consider him a lesser prospect than Lawrence.

I guess we should also call into question the judgment of schools like
Alabama
Oklahoma
Illinois
and Arkansas

All teams that offered Wingo who didn't offer Lawrence.

There's a reason why Lawrence ended up choosing between SMU and Mizzou and Wingo had offers from some of the best programs in the country...unless of course you're saying you know better than the recruiters who are hitting the turf for those programs.

HNK-

y'all keep recruiting like this year and Pelini's able to attract more Texas talent like Burkhead and C. Williams and you again will be the Big Dawg in the North with Mizzou fighting Kansas and Colorado.

Burkhead's great, sure wish we could have reeled him

Pinkel's big rival in the North is not Nebrasks, but KU. Mangino has pretty well had his way with Mizzou except for the year before last. I think KU would be a lock to win the North this year except for the fact that they draw OU, Tech, and UT from the South. I seems a bit unfair that KU is the only North team who has to play all three of the South powers the same year. Wonder why.
