Good article. I like Stein and think it's unfortunate she hasn't been given the resources required to be competitive in this league. And leaving her hanging is wrong - make a decision one way or the other - it's clear this has impacted recuriting and allowed other programs to exploit the situation for their own gain.
Given the current environment I can't see MU shelling out the kind of money (not only salary but in terms of across the board resources) necessary to bring in a top or even up-and-coming coach. They would have to double or very likely even triple the current salary and agree to dramatic increases in recruiting budgets etc. I think they should get behind Stein, allocate additional resources where required, and allow her to bring in new assistants. But whether Stein stays or goes MU should be more supportive of their women's BB program.
Hmmm, so who we'll they hire? My 1st thought is Cynthia Cooper-Dykes. She has done wonders down at Prairie View. But then in the back of my mind Kara Lawson. She's going to be a great coach one day. I say they should test the waters and see if she's ready to coach now.
This should be interesting - will they dish out the $$$ to get the next up and coming great coach, find someone cheaper off the beaten path or really rock the boat and go after a great coach that isn't happy where they currently are coaching?
