Horns will be trying to break a two game losing streak when they go to Columbia to face the Missouri Tigers. The Tigers will be coming off a road loss to Nebraska and trying to build on a two game home winning streak. Mizzou is 3-9 in conference play with wins over KSU, KU and Nebraska, all at home. The three losses at home have all been close, 62-56 to A&M, 61-56 to Colorado, and 68-60 to OSU. The Tigers play much better at home than on the road. Texas could have their hands full in seeking a win at Missouri.
Mizzou has three players averaging double digits in Big 12 play: Jessra Johnson (# 4, 6-1 Jr. F, 12.0 ppg), Alyssa Hollins (# 12, 5-11 Sr. G, 11.5 ppg), and Shakara Jones (# 44, 6-2 Soph. F, 10.7 ppg). Hollins is their top 3pt threat, having made 22-75 (29.3%) triples in conference play. As a team, the Tigers are making 24.2% (40-165) of 3s. Johnson is the top rebounder at 6.2 rpg. She is supported by RaeShara Brown (# 23, 5-8 Soph. G) with 5.2 rpg and Jones with 4.6 rpg. Mizzou is averaging 35.2 rpg but giving up 37.2 rpg. They have four players that have between 18 and 21 assists in conference play. They don’t block many shots (43 total) but neither do they get their shots blocked, having only 45 shots blocked. Johnson and Bekah Mills (# 1, 5-9 Fr.G) lead the team with 9 blocks each. In contrast, Texas has two players (Lindsey and Gayle) with a total of 41 blocks. The Tigers do have four playes with at least 10 steals with Brown’s 32 doubling the second best ball hawk on the team. The Tigers are decent at the FT line, making 67.6 % of their FTs. Jones is the only one of those having double digit FT attempts that is hitting less than 50%.
Brit has taken over the scoring lead in conference play from Kat at 11.3 ppg to Kat’s 10.6 ppg. They are the only two Horns averaging double digit scoring in conference play. Still, the Horns have had several different players step up and score in double digits in the last few games. Brit has been the most active in taking shots with 130 FGAs in conference play. She has made 47 for a 36.2%. Ashleigh has been the most effective, making 43-82 (52.4%). Five players have taken between 77 and 94 FGs in addition to Brit’s 130. Aside from Ashleigh’s 52%, the other four are averaging between 38 and 43%. Kat (18-51, 35.3%)and Brit (13-43, 30.2%) are the primary threats from BTA for Texas. Erika, Ashleigh, and Carla also have to be accounted for when they are on the court. The Horns are doing a good job getting to the FT line with seven players having gotten there at least 24 times. Of those seven, Kat (82.5%) and Brit (72.5%) have been the most consistent in making the FTs. As a team, the Horns are making 66.5% in Big 12 play. Kat continues to be a force around the basket for the Horns, averaging 6.7 rpg. Six others are averaging between 2.8 and 3.8 rpg. Carla has 54 assists (4.5 apg) with three others in double figures. Lindsey (25) and Gayle (16) are the two Horns with double digit blocks. Ashleigh’s 22 steals lead four others with double digit steals and three more with at least eight.

This looks like it could be an easy win for the Horns. But Missouri has played everyone tough in their place. A&M got of there with a six point win. OSU took an eight point win. Colorado was the surprise loss, getting a 5 pt win. The Tigers knocked off KSU, Nebraska, and Kansas with the KSU win being the most impressive. Texas should expect nothing less. The teams are close in a lot of areas. Where the Horns should have an advantage is in protecting the paint with Gayle and Lindsey and in making the 3 should our shooters be on. After the debacle in College Station, I would expect the third best team in steals to come after the Horns with a lot of pressure to see if the Horns break down. This game could be a nailbiter or a blowout.
Checking the Tiger website, the game will be carried by the CBS College Sports All Access. You do need to sign if but if you have registered with Texas site, I am assuming you can sign in for the Missouri feed.
The game is Tuesday, the 24th with a tipoff time of 6:30 pm CST.
