If you want to see a good action flick, this is worth the time and money - but I'd say MI4 is a good movie and not just a good action movie.
It's not Oscar-worthy, but the acting is pretty good. I know it's popular to hate on Tom Cruise but he really is great for this role.
It's got plenty of over-the-top, "yeah right, as if that could ever happen in real life" moments, but it's also got some other stuff that sets it apart from mindless fistfight+explosion flicks. For one thing, even at its worst moments, the MI series has always been about building subplots where the good guys have to do all sorts of complex tasks to achieve their goals, and not solely about coming up with excuses to have people kill each other in cool ways. And thankfully this time, there's no overly-drawn out fight scenes where characters each receive about 97 punches to the face apiece without suffering any real injury.
The storyline was reall good in this one and not too predictable. Definitely has an interesting plot with some unexpected twists and a good mix of overt action with the stealth and suspense stuff.
And best of all, it's one of the few movies ever with no "mandatory romance subplot" brutally shoehorned into it.
