I've lived in Austin for years, but I've never been able to be at the right place at the right time to hear the wonderful Miss Lavelle White until last weekend. Main reason: she doesn't like to perform before 10 or 11 o'clock, and I tend to be in or very near a bed by then! But Friday night she started about 8:30 at the Saxon Pub.
This 82 year old blues and soul singer can still sing, move and get her funk on. She has a great attitude and enough energy. She's working on a new CD and she's going to Italy to perform in a couple of months.
Like Pinetop Perkins, who will be 97 in July, she's still doing her thang and it is a good thang. She's probably more fun after 11, but I'm not.
