Saw some of the (ESPN) replay of the Elite 11 Camp for the Class of 2013. Went online and looked up the final 11 selected.
The 25 who attended: The Link
The final Elite 11: The Link
No selected final Elite 11 is committed to an SEC school.
Candidates of the 25 who went to the camp, came to compete for the Elite 11 final spots, came as these SEC commits:
Alabama
Georgia
Tennessee
LSU
Ole Miss
Arkansas
None made it to the Final 11.
Potential SEC good, but not Elite 11 good.
Just goes to show what it takes to have a winning program.
Does not always take an 'elite' quarterback.
From the Big 12, competing:
Luke Del Rio, OK-State, only spot from Big 12 in the Final 11
Davis Webb, Texas Tech
Tyrone Swoopes, Texas
Cody Thomas, OU
Does not add up to anything for me, but I did observe that according to this kind of competition and "sport" no QB headed to the SEC is in this 'Elite' group. Yet I doubt that has any impact on the success of the more successful SEC programs.
Always a lot made about quarterbacks. It take everything else... and I mean everything under the sun... plus a pretty good quarterback. Vince Young had support, but it took some gifts he brought, too. Same for Cam Newton. And couple of years back, for Timothy Tebow as well. They had help to go with what else they brought.
But real quick... without looking it up... list the last six national championship starting quarterbacks.
I can't. Maybe four. McElroy, McClaran (spell), Tebow, Newton. Can't think of the other two.
Longhorns are going to do just fine with what's here now and coming. I think so, anyway.
