Holy cow ... just had the privelidge (sp) of eating at Ming's at a multi-course dinner put on by the owner, and I have to say this place is incredible. Everything we ate is available on the menu. Ming's is the place on Guadalupe next to the 7-eleven (26th? 27th?), and it shares parking with the Noodle House. It's relatively new - the owner has just moved from Houston (where is ran the original Ming's).

It's set up as mostly a chinese takeout place, but has several tables. His recipies, however, deserve to be sat an enjoyed. We had habanero spicy shrip, still in shell. Crawfish fried rice was a neat turn on an old standby. The scallops with jalapeno in black bean sauce might be my new favorite chinese food dish in town. Prices are reasonable, but a bit higher than someplace like WanFu.

Seriously - go try it. And say hi to Fai, the owner. He loves teh feedback.

Awesome! You should post in the Around Austin forum too so that others will know as well. At first I thought you were talking about the noodle place behind 7-11. Thought maybe it went out of business and they moved in.

Gonna have to go try this place, this Ming's you speak of.

Is the Ming's in Houston on Montrose at Westheimer? I was across the street at BB's Cajun yesterday and saw it. I'm always up for new chinese, so I'll have to give it a try if this is the one.

YChang are you trying to say that Chinese food in America has been influenced by America or that Chinese food is engrained into American culture? I would buy either and could argue either, but just curious in your thoughts.

Both! I'm in the process of reading a fascinating book on this very subject. I only recently started eating General Tso's chicken at buffets/restaurants. For the longest time I avoided it because I never had anything like that as a kid. It's great! It's American.

YChang, I love Chinese food and have noted that it definitely takes on regional differences. Interestingly enough I was in Angola not too long ago and we went to eat at a Chinese resteraunt that a family that was only 2 months removed from China had opened up and while there were several dishese with similar names it was very different, and very good.

Heck even my family's Chinese food isn't really authentic, since we're from India, it's really Indian Chinese food.

I will have to check this out. Thanks for the post.

"indian-chiese food" sounds like the greatest idea ever. i you don't open that restaurant, i will!!

ychang, give me your mom's email. I will send chocolates or flowers for some recipes. i mean this in a respectful way. dude, this sounds delicous.

mmmm, curry chicken friend rice with naan.

Indian Chinese is basically Chinese cooking style mixed in with Indian ingredients. Lots of veggie, chicken and mutton used, with cumin, curry powder and other typical Indian spices lots of ginger, lots of chili pepper. Think of a typical stir fry Chicken dish in a curry sauce.
