"A chelada style light beer brewed with a hint of lime and salt"

Miller Chill (requires registration--entering your bday)

Saw big display of this at HEB yesterday. I was simultaneously repulsed and intrigued. Has anyone tried it?

I have tried it... Not nearly as bad as Tequiza. It really isn't great either. I will say that I did order one the other day (someone else was paying), and although I don't think most American beers are really even drinkable... with a lime wedge added and in a frosted, salted glass, it was drinkable. And like I said, I wasn't paying for it either.

So it is a pre-made michelada? I prefer to make my own.

Speaking of which, I can't wait for the key limes to go down in price at HEB......

Yeah, what is "chelada" style? I make my own micheladas and have had them in Mexico and all through Texas.

Someone brought a few a my house for a party a few weeks ago. Most who tried them (ie girls) said they couldn't drink more than one or two but they would be good after being out on a boat all day.

Chelada = lime + salt, when you get a lime in your Corona or Tecate it is baisically "chelada," altough in a real chelada you use lime juice in a glass w/ a salted rim.

Michelada = lime juice, salt, Worcestershire/hot sauce, and whatever else you throw in there when you make it. Has to be in a glass, you can't just shove a lime down the neck of the bottle and call it a michelada.

There is a biiiig difference.

Thanks hornian. The micheladas I've had fit your description. In a glass over ice, salt, lime juice, and some type of hot sauce (I use cholula when I make them at home).

Like I said, I didn't know there was something called "chelada style" but it seems like the only real difference is the hot sauce.

I'm not sure why anyone would want a pre-packaged "chelada -style" beer when it seems that adding your own salt and fresh lime would taste better, but I suppose the guys at Miller might know more about the mass beer market than I do. After all, their Miller Clear beer was a tremendous hit...

I guess I'm the only one that likes an occasional Tequiza? Then again, I have no problem drinking Lone Star, Natty, Pearl, Keystone, Tecate, etc.

Actually guys, chelada was originally the one with lime, salt and hot sauce, and michelada was what you got here, it originated in Mexico City, and when it spread else where the terms got switched.
