Is Huckabee a viable candidate for VP?

I went to see Mike Huckabee this morning. There were about 300 there and he was very charming. I'm not a Huckabee-style Republican but there are a bunch out there and our party needs those voters.

Even though I'm not a Guns, God and Gays conservative I didn't hear anything in his stump speech which troubled me. He supports two amendments to the Constitution (on Abortion and Marriage), which won't happen. Big Deal. The Fair Tax won't fly either.

He's a charming guy. I think he's the most honest and most likable guy in the field. I still haven't figured out though whether as VP he wins votes or loses them. As VP he wouldn't have to change any positions but would be expected to tone it down when on the national stage. I could see him working the Bible Belt effectively. He would be a bad attack dog though.

Huckabee is not viable and not charming in the least, one of the more boring candidates I have ever seen who panders to the extreme right, which thankfully is shrinking as demographics change.

being on the extreme right is exactly why McCain will never select Huckabee as a teammate. Not cut from the same cloth.

Huck is a nut. A charming nut, but in no way qualified to be president or a heartbeat away from it. And with McCain's age, he needs to take this pick seriously.

As a Dem I find Huck to be sort of a breath of fresh air. Yes I think he is a right wing kook, but I think on the stump he is great to listen to.

I know most Horns won't like the name, but...

J.C. Watts...

Doesn't aid McCain with the regional thing but would with Romney. However, he's a solid conservative, he's a dynamic personality AND he takes the edge off the fact that the Republican candidate will be running against either a woman or an African American...

Oh...and Huckabee would not be a good choice for McCain...I think he would drive away a lot of the votes that McCain is pulling from the moderates...

honest question, how can he be a good choice if he thinks that the world is less than 9000 years old? that just . . i dont know . ..i mean come on...

Huckabee reminds of of our Current President except smarter tothe point he doesnt' have handlers the way Bush did running in 2000. If he did he woudl be more viable.

What's funny to me is that Hucakbee is staying in the race IMO to blunt Romney's chances and to curry favor with McCain. I personally would LOVE to see a McCain Huckabee ticket!!! Can't think of anything better for the Dems.

I can almost see the McCain independents tacking away from Hucakbee....

Yeah, the constitutional amendment comment, to me, sent him from an intersting, likeable candidate I don't agree with, to extremist kook in about .5 seconds.

As to the constitutional ammendment- I thought it was a great line, as a conservative.

here is a guy who gets it, if the law of the land is in conflict with your beliefs change the law of the land. Don't run to the courts, don't dilly dally or dick around- go out and change the constitution to make it line up with the bible. Brilliant!

Of course, that isn't likely to ever happen, it's the reason why the framers made it so difficult, but the constitution is a living and breathing document (Just what the libs get wrong is it's living and breathing doc b/c it can be ammended, not b/c you just change it via judicial fiat). I loved the thought process- and don't worry- it ain't gonna happen but isn't it great that we have a way to make it happen if a lot of people want it to, but it's hard enough that it really has to be agreed upon by lots and lots and lots.

Anyway- I would love to see JC Watts with a major stage in the Republican Party. He looked like he was on the way to that and I don't know what happened. But I mean majojr national position in the party.

I think J.C. Watts would be a very solid choice.

Not Huckabee. No.

No. The GOP wins when it moves right. Huckabee would be considered a "conservative" in two places: a meeting of staff writers for the Nation, and this forum. McCain is iffyon certain issues, so he needs to go right with his selection.

You can use that as a quote if you want from me- I think you are taking it out of context as the point I'm making is Conservatives believe if you want the law of the land changed you change the constitution, not run to the courts for your own way. It isn't going to happen- so why stress about it. It's an honest answer, and ultimately harmless. My favorite way a politician can talk.

DFW- you are missing the point of what I'm saying- I'm saying if he believes the bible should be the law of the land then the best way to make that happen is ammending the constitution- I also think I said (or at least meant to) it shows he is honest and nuts (thus harmless).

He ain't gonna win an election, and even if he does he ain't gonna get anything done in the name of religion to change the constitution- that's why the framers made it so hard to do- that's what I support

Also, when I say that Conservatives don't run to the court- I mean it as a principled conservative- I'm not talking about republicans here. What you say is accurate- the abortion and abomination going on in favor of the monkeys running this state is represhensible, and I do not call it part of a principled conservative movement that is about giving power to the people- it's about usurping it in the interst of big money contributors, and it's a shame.

NAI- I guess that's my point that I'm trying to make why I found it refreshing that Huck answered the way he did- he didn't say lets pack the court and get favorable justices that will let us make the bible into law- he said- if the law of the land conflicts with the bible lets change the law of the land. That is awesome- imo. It ain't gonna happen, and sheds some light onto what he's about- but from a perspective of process he's really on the right track, imo.

Also- what was great about Huck saying what he did was that he spoke the truth as to what he believed and will now be held accountable. I welcome candidates talking about where they are coming from truthfully so we will know how they intend to govern, where they are coming from. He's now going to be accountable for his beliefs which is awesome.
