Middle Names as a First

Anybody here use their middle name as their first? If so, I am curious to hear your thoughts on any or all of the following:

Why/when you chose to do so?
If not as a kid, at what age?
What documents did you use your first name vs middle name on?
What about bank accts, diploma etc? (do they require full legal names?)
Do you do the T. Boone Pickens thing, or drop your first name altogether in informal usage?
Do you have multiple signatures? (Are you required to sign your first name on docs that have your first name or is signature irrelevant?)
What problems have you had?

Basically what is your story without having to use your real names?

I don't know why it took me this long to realize my first and last name combination is so common. A quick search on facebook came up with about 10 pages of ppl with the same name. It made me realize I may be better off using my middle name (less common) in light of future projects (entertainment related) to avoid identity problems. So your input is appreciated.

I've gone by my middle name since birth so it wasn't by choice.

On my bank accounts and all ID's, I'm listed by my full name. But when I set up phone, cable, or other service accounts I generally list myself by my middle name. I think my diploma is written out to my middle name also.

As for my signature, I mostly use my middle name when signing but sometimes add my first initial as well or sign my full name if I think it might cause confusion to sign by my middle name.

^ That was very helpful. Thanks.

I've gone by my middle name since I was a baby also.

I do about the same as when the guy above said, but sometimes I really wish that I did go by my actual first name just to avoid all these little annoyances that happened over the years.

Typical example: When I got to UT, I went to the main office and had them change my name on all my records to T Boone. Everything at UT was then fine, but when it came to sending transcripts and things to grad schools a few got misplaced or filed wrong cause the new schools had me as Thomas B.

For all new parents: don't name a kid with the intention of using his middle name.

my uncle goes by Boone Pickens.

Gram named him after a family friend- but said that she just didnt see him as a Thomas and after around 6 months or so, the whole family just started calling him Boone.

Hes a senior VP at Proctor and Gamble so I have seen his business cards with both variations (either T Boone or Boone)

Oh, details...

My dad uses T. Boone on official things, such as a professional license. He signs T. Boone on checks. I don't know what his driver's license says.

Everyone knows him as Booney (a nickname), and some certificates have Booney on them.

He was given the first name of his father, but is not a junior. HTH.

Pretty much the Hayden Horn scenario. Would have been easier had my parent simply flopped the first and middle names.

Some girls did call me by my first name for about 1/3 of 8th grade. Since they were all hot I could have cared less. Nearly switched over at that point.

I do know a gal that changed the name she went by at the age of about 28. Took about a year to have it be second nature, but I like her name better now paired with her last name.

we named our son after his grandfather who is still alive. we use his middle name now because of that. reversing the names didn't flow right. he'll figure it out and use what he wants when it gets to that point.

Don't call your kid by his middle name. It is been a huge pain in the *** for 35 years for me. From school to job interviews to official documents to everything.

In order to avoid the problem of someone having to guess which name to use, I introduce my self as Boone, but a few years ago changed everything I could to T.B. Pickens to avoid being called the wrong name. That seemed to fix most of the issues.

Always gone by my middle name. I'm a jr and my dad went by his middle name too. A lot of it has to do with having the same first name as a famous chipmunk.

Thanks all.

So I've thought about it, my name just doesn't work with the T. Boone thing. Maybe I'm just not used to it.

For those of you above who didn't answer, how do you sign your name, T. Boone or Thomas Boone? Just trying to get a survey of what's more common...

I'm a T. Boone. Gone by Boone since birth. My parents intended to call me Boone. Professionally, I go by T.Boone Pickens, socially just Boone Pickens. Most people don't even know what T. stands for.

My eldest son is a junior. He goes by the name that T. stands for. It avoids the whole Big Boone, Little Boone deal. Most people don't even know he's a junior.

It's always been a bit of a hassle...middle initial blanks, etc. But no big deal.

I have always gone by Boone. My first name, and the way it was spelled, has been the source of great aggravation in my life, since the combination has always led people who don't know me to believe I was a girl, instead of a guy. Even the University, when it accepted me, mistook my sex and sent me an application for Kinsolving (i've often wondered what would have happened if I took them up on that

)

On all my legal documents, I have my legal first name, but whenever I have had the option, I've always used T. Boone. It also makes for a quick weeding out of phone calls and letters.

My credit history is under Boone, and for some inexplicable reason, my mother used my middle name when setting up my social security number. Perhaps she didn't like my first name either. Neither of my parents used my first name growing up, so I have always used and been known by Boone.

I echo the comments above to parents that if you want to use the middle name, do your kid a favor and legally make it the first name.

I've had a few friends whose names were:

First Middle Last Jr. or IV...

If they were Jr/2nd or IV, they went by the MIDDLE name. That's just the way it went.

One of those guys, a "Jr.", named his son III, but is going to call him a tripple variation rather than "FIRST".

I go by Boo Pickens, I sign everything TB Pickens, and my diploma, ID, bills, etc. say Thomas Boones Pickens. Its a pain in the *** and I don't recommend foisting such a burden on your progeny.

I've gone by my middle name since probably the age of 3 or 4. Kindergarten reinforced it for me because there were 4-5 other "John's" in the class. I sometimes sign my full name though. BUT, I usually go by my middle name and most (family & friends) know/call me by my middle name.

For me, my Dad and I have the same first name, so since birth, I have gone by my middle name.

I sign T. Boone Pickens.

I use my full name for anything School, Bank, Credit Card, Apartment, or Doctor related.

All in all, its not that big of deal.

Folks named me Boone Boone. African name, kind of like Boutros Boutros. Always been a pain in the *** ***.

needless to say, most of my friends call me T.

Last week, I went to a "thank you" meeting at a school where we mentor. Four guys were in the meeting, and we all know each other fairly well. Checking into the school, they take your driver's license, scan it, and make a name tag that has our first and last name. We get in the meeting, and it turns out all four of us go by our middle names (none of us knew that the others used their middle names).

Anyway, I've gone by my middle name since birth. Official docs have all three names and I sign most docs T. Boone Pickens, but frankly my signature's so bad few people can really tell. All informal docs just have middle and last name.

Don't do it to your kid.

i prefer to go by my last name. i prefer curtis (middle) over john (first) but no one really knows my middle name and it'd be confusing.

i'd have to move somewhere and that sure as **** aint happening.

My stepson, whose dad is from Bangladesh, uses his middle name, which is one of the most common boy's names in the English language. His first name is also quite common -- in Bangladesh.

His sister also uses her English name, although it happens to be her first name.
