Miami

I'm about to head for Florida for a couple of weeks and will be spending most my time in Miami.

First, I've never been to Florida, so not sure what to expect, but need some help with Miami.

What are some good places I must hit up this time of the year? Beach? Bars? Etc?

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks ahead of time.

Miami, for the most part, ******* sucks. Sure, South Beach is nice and scenic and all but the locals and Euro trash tourists are ****.
Spend your time in the Keys if you can.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help but that's just my impression of the place.

first of all, it's winter and it's going to be cold. forget the beach idea.

second, miami is mecca for the crazy superficial latin culture. it's fun for like 30 mins, after that, you'll want to gorge our your eyes and stab pencils into your ears. don't know what i mean? don't worry, you will.

third, the women are hot, but you'll soon realize that they are all money grubbing bytches. i know that is all women, but these miami women take it to a new level.

fourth, it's full of yankees. and i mean that in the worst possible way. i can not stand yankee culture, attitude and talk. guidos gallore.

fifth, combine guido licious with latin licious and you have a recipe for a place that i'll never go back to again in my life.

i'd much rather do vegas. at least in vegas, you have cool laid back southern california people to offset the guidos that invade that place.

wow...such a bad impression of miami from the other posters.

My gf is from Miami, and all in all i really enjoy it....but we typically stay away from south beach unless we head to a club. Try the coconut grove area much more of the young professional/college scene. We typically head here for dinner/drinks etc.

If you have never been it is a cool place. it does get old after several visits if you stay in the touristy areas. It is considered the 6th borrough since so many new yorkers make it home now (or vacation). Do the typical tourist things.

It shouldn't be that cold even in January. If its 80s or so you should definitely stroll down the tops-optional portion of South Beach (below around 7th St I think). Little Havana/Calle Ocho for authentic Cuban food. The UM campus is pretty nice and I agree on Coconut Grove being a great spot away from the madness.

I'll agree with Crash Davis, for the most part. I lived in Fort Lauderdale for 25+ years & have family in the area still.

As for "learn Spanish", what he meant to say is "learn Cuban" because they'll notice right away if you don't speak their own particular vernacular.

I once had a customer say to me in a heavy accent "You need to learn Spanish to work in this town." They absolutely HATE Puerto Ricans & Dominicans, too.

Seriously - if you'll be there for 7 days or so, spend maybe 1 whole day there & then buzz down to the Keys. Look further down the line on this forum for info I posted about suggestions for going to the Keys.

"My - Jammy" is nothing but fake tits & even faker $ 20-thousand-millionaires. & Yes, I'm talking from Perrine to Hialeah Gardens to Coconut Grove to Aventura to Palmetto Bay.

Thanks all for the advice. I switched up my schedule a bit and won't spend as much time in Miami as before. I'm going to hit up another place or two and looks like I'm going to the Keys

Should be fun regardless! Gracias
