Meyers Decision and Hicks

after Charlie Strong left, Fla was still confident since Meyer was the point man in Hicks' recruitment. As long as we hold on to Muschamp, our chances with Hicks should be very good.

Not that the talking heads have anything to do with a hiring process, the names they threw out weer not including Muschamp.

They said they would likely want a coach with head coaching experience already. That makes sense to me. Both Stoops. Why not make an offer to Bob? Why not little brother?

Then the name of Willingham from Utah, a long time assistant who runs the same system as Meyer.

I don't think Muschamp will be on their radar because he doesn't have any head coaching experience. Most programs that hire coordinators do so because they can't afford to pay what the top head coaches are making or otherwise don't feel like they can get a top head coach to make the switch. Florida can certainly afford to pay whatever they want, and they're not going to get turned down by anyone other than guys like Pete Carroll and Mack Brown who have reached the pinnacle of their profession and plan to retire where they are.

The other factor is that Meyer has said he is staying in Gainesville and wants to remain involved with the program. That indicates to me that he may have designs on returning to the head coaching position or taking an administrative job within the program when and if his health problems are solved. If that is the case, I don't think Muschamp will have much interest in being a seat-filler or a figurehead while Meyer is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Word on Florida boards is that Strong hasn't sign the Louisville contract yet and will be FL new HC instead.

It was previously posted that Hicks had all ready made his decision... and that post just disappeared!!!

It's not my task to look. And those have nothing to do with the question asked. I answered what I think may have happened to that thread.

I am sure the guideline exists for a good reason and applies to everybody.

As 100p has pointed out, there was no link in the post saying that Hicks has already made a Texas decision. Consequently, when I asked the question in the OP, I was assuming three possibilities. First, that Hicks has made no final decision. Second, Hicks has made a decision and chose Florida. Third, Hicks has made a decision and chose Texas.

If either of the first two are true, then I would assume that he is seriously re-thinking. If the third possibility is true, he might be checking with Muschamp to check on his status before making his decision public.

In the past some people have said or asserted ridiculous things that usually don't come true. It is rumor mongering. Sometimes the story pans out and sometimes it does not. Nobody is ever right all the time as things change that affect situations at hand.

For this reason it is best to always require a link, a credible link. Some just want quick internet attention for news that is shared or known by many others who just choose to be an adult and follow rules they agreed to follow.

I don't think the Meyer situation affected Hicks in any way. Strongs may have if anybody did.

The UF coaches felt pretty confident about hicks even after Strong had walked. They had their in-home, etc., after Strong left.

Hard to believe that Meyer's decision wouldn't help to clarify any lean/decision Hicks made in favor of Texas. If he had not made that decision, it is hard to believe that the turnover and uncertainty in Gainesville would help to clarify in Texas' favor, or at least muddy the waters at UF's expense.

No final answer til he signs, of course, but this isn't problematic for UT.

I remember the thread that went missing. Somehow the topic had changed from when he would commit to who has better weather between Austin and San Diego.

I think classes start fairly early in January in Florida and Ohio State so if he is going to enroll in the spring he will need to make a decision very soon.

Let's talk facts here:
FLA:
1) DC leaves
2) HC resigns
3) HS QB commit makes strong push for my commitment

TEX:
1) I really like school - both academics and football
2) DC is one of the best

Oh, the HS QB is making a strong push for a package deal. I think I'll commit to FLA.

You have to remember we are talking about the SEC perception and way of thinking. They believe that if they say it or type it, it has to be true. They keep telling this to each other and they believe it.

Cam Newton verballed to Florida today. It'll give Burton more time to recruit Hicks now that he knows he won't have to worry about starting his first two seasons.
