Anyone have any good suggestions on good Mexican food (or Tex-Mex) in North or Northwest Austin? 183 area would be ideal.

How is Manuel's near the Arboretum?

Thanks!

Thanks for the help.

Maudie's on 360 is the same price as Maudie's on North Lamar and a lot nicer and easier to get to if you're in the Arboretum area.

El Chile on Greystone. Don't think it is as good as the original, but some of the dishes are still awesome.

Now let me preface this by saying I haven't been to a Baby Acapulco since there was a Casa Acapulco on Riverside, and then later on Barton Springs Rd., before they changed their name to "Baby Acapulco"..............

That said.........there's a Baby Acapulco nestled in behind the Residence Inn and Courtyard, catty-corner from the Gateway Center at the Corner of 183 and CapTexHwy. Actually on Stonelake I think.

I would suggest giving the Maudie's on 360 and the new El Chile a miss. The originals have both been past favorites, but these two are poor substitutes (particularly the Maudie's--consistently bad service and every time I curse myself for giving them another chance).

Jardin Corona is great.

There is one on Pond Springs Road in Jollyville and in Cedar Park on 183 just before the Buttercup entrance.

Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had and they have an extensive menu selection. Worth the drive if you are not in the area.

I've never had any problem with the service or food at Maudie's Davenport (360). The only thing I've noticed about that location that is not consistent with the other locations is that the salsa is much hotter. Since I like hot salsa, I'm cool with that.

Still, on busy Fridays or Saturdays, I tend to go to the North Lamar location, since I know I'll get seated right away. The one on Davenport can have a very long wait on weekend evenings.

Been going to Maudie's Davenport (or "Snotty Maudies's") for years. In all the times we've gone, I can only recall one really bad experience with service. Some servers are better than others, but generally they do a good job.
I agree about the salsa -- hot, but very good.
Thursday-Saturday is very crowded.

So one down, many to go

I went to Maudies (360) and really enjoyed it. Salsa was hot, but that's how I like it.

I'll be trying the others ones out soon.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I love Antonio's on Jollyville. The place is a dump and the service is consistently bad that it's become a running joke with the wife. The food is great though, and they have awesome ritas and salsa - my barometer of good tex-mex.

I found a good one today and while it is not in NW Austin proper, it is outstanding and better than anything I've had in the area (including many on this list).

The place is called Los Reyes and is located on the west side of old 183 in Cedar Park in a strip center. Overall, very good Tex-Mex, nice clean place and the service was excellent. The prices are very inexpensive as well. It really is just north of Lakeline mall, so not far at all from NW Austin.
