Metallica playing Stubbs on Friday

I heard them chattering about it on the radio and I am glad I won't be anywhere near that area of downtown at that time. I think there may be just a little bit of a line and commotion on top of the already hustle and bustle environment. No thanks.

Man I didn't even know these guys were still touring. Which collection of misfits are they calling Metallica these days?

Hornpharmd with the "I'm too cool to know these guys were still around ---literally I did not know!!"

To many who knew of and followed Metallica when very few people listened to them, they stopped existing after their third album and the basically rehashed the same album or sound over and over again. A few songs may be the exception to the rule.

I would not go to a Metallica show now if it were free but then again I am the same way with U2 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. All are bands that are massive now but whose sound and music has changed over time.

The only reason I knew Metallica was still touring was some documentary they played on VH1 late at night about them and their soap opera of existing, movie deals, new members of the band, etc...

Props to all their current fans but some long term or fans from the beginning may have just not gone along with changes. There are many bands whose sound has changed and I kept with them so it is not a matter of when a band gets popular, drop 'em.

To each their own. Many don't give a **** what Metallica does and may not know they were still a touring band. It's not hard to not know this.

I hope all who went to the show had a great time. I heard DJ Shadow was there too. That must have been interesting to see the crowd reaction and response. That guy can turn it out.

One of the guys I worked with last night at Auditorium Shores also went, and said it was a HELL of a show. I liked Raul Malo and the ARC Angels just fine... thank you.

Oh...and DEVO was the BEST show of SXSW. They blew up the Music Hall.

The Metallica show I went to in Dublin in 2006 was one of the best shows I've ever seen. It was the 20th anniversary of the release of Puppets, and they played the entire album, start to finish, in order. I'd definitely go see them again (which I may do when they play here again this summer)

If you didn't know that Metallica was touring or had a new album or that Guitar Hero: Metallica is about to be released, then you must not pay attention to anything. Or you live in a cave.

I also love the elitist view of "Metallica stopped being cool once others besides me began to hear about them". Same kind of thinking when indie movies are trashed once they are available for everyone to buy and see. Douchebags.

Pay attention, focusness, genaralize or presume less. All great info.

It was stated, at least in my case, that there are plenty of things to include bands and movies, that have become popular or more mainstream that I still enjoy and partake in. Metallica, U2 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers happen to be 3 that I don't like any longer nor have I in years.

I was lucky enough to have an advance of the first Metallica through a friend. I was lucky enough to be enjoying the Peppers within the first couple of shows they ever played before an album came out. I don't hold those issues as having impact on why I don't like them.

Go listen to RHCP and tell me you don't find a big change in their music. I liked what they did, not what they do. Metallica, meh, stale for my tastes. Then again, my metal tastes tend to be more thrash and Black/Death. I would love to enjoy Metallica. They are very easy to access unlike a lot of other metal.

Thankfully there is the internet to keep up with stuff. It was much harder "back in the day". Generalizations backfire often.

The less a man makes declarative statements the less he is to seem foolish in retrospect.

To this day, best concert I've ever seen was Metallica at South Park Meadows on the Binge and Purge tour in '94. (but F you Alice in Chains for cancelling the day before!!)

you are calling people douchebags for ripping on Metallica, while the ulimate douchebaggery is a band releasing a Guitar Hero of their songs. Talk about a money grab.

These have ceased to be a band that really is doing anything interesting or creative anymore. But that usually happens with bands with guys in their mid 40's. Hey i understand it, you aren't young forever.

Many of my favorite bands ended up like that. And like Metallica, it's not really about the music anymore.

Crime, assaults and other crimes have gone up quite a bit lately downtown. It is not the homeless either. It is just people being drunk, thinking they are gangsta or something, who knows. The homeless will get in your way pretending to help you park your car in a spot you would have seen to begin with which sucks. Some people feel they may vandalize their car if they don't give them some cash. That is something I have seen go on a lot more.

I don't fault Metallica for doing the Queertar Hero money grab, good for them! Get all you can get while you can get it. Hell yeah!

i liked Bill Maher's thoughts on Guitar Hero:

When did Americans become the something-for-nothings?

Maybe that's what leads to "Guitar Hero" culture, where everyone wants to be a rock star, but nobody wants to learn the chords.
