Messenger Popup removal help

I asked this about a year ago and someone had the answer, but I couldn't find it in the archives.
My girlfriend's computer gets all these damn grey messenger popups (there are like 20-25 each day) with all kinds of useless info. How do I get those to stop? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Messenger

Double Click
Change from Automatic to Disabled
Click Stop
Click Ok/Apply
