There's a relatively new place on Mesa Dr. in between Spicewood Springs and Steck called Mesa Ranch (formerly Wild Ginger, formerly Shangri La). Locally owned, sort of a Texas Land and Cattle sort of place. It was really great. I had the chicken fried venison. Wife had the grilled chicken bowtie pasta. Great cornbread and rolls. Chips and salsa was fresh and the chips are served hot and seasoned. Will definitely go back. Steaks, quail, fish dishes, etc. Lots of variety. Check it out.

that place opened up over a year ago. i think it was "Kathy's" before that. that location is up there in hte "kiss of death". before "kathy's" it was an asian place.

Tough location, but It's a great restaurant. Shangri La was open for over 10 years at that location. And Mesa Ranch was packed last night.

I think they'll survive. The owner has a lot of experience running (chain) steakhouses, and he's put together a pretty good concept for the neighborhood. The food is good -- not great -- but the prices are reasonable.

We live right down the street from there and have eaten there a few times as well as stopped by for drinks. We like it. Food isn't the best in town, but pretty dang good, and price is right. We get takeout from there fairly often as well--bar and waitstaff are all friendly.

Do they still have live music every night? I need to get up there and check that place out, because I have three friends that rave about it and eat there on a regular basis.

I've been twice -- once there was no music, once there was an older guy playing acoustic guitar and croaking out some country blues. He was decent.
