Exciting to see the men's squad ranked 5th in the nation, with four players in the current top 100 (Damico and Corrie top 25) and a top 10 doubles team. Great results this past week with convincing wins over higher ranked (at the time) USC and sweep of then #10 Alabama. The loss to #2 GA was a good match and could have gone either way imo. While I think UVA is the clear #1 at this point the top squads are closer than in past years....the top 6 or 7 programs all have an equal number of players (four) in the collegiate top 100, but I think the Horns may have a slightly better upside given their youth and the fact our top two players are freshmen and our third ranked team member (#53 Kutrovsky) is a sophmore. I am really hoping for a strong finish from the men this season.

I am not sure what to make of the women at this point. I had expected us to be a top 10 program this season. Corvic was one of the top freshmen in the country last year and opened with a #19 pre-season ranking this fall. We actually had four players ranked at the beginning of the season (Corovic, Lancaster, Zauft and Davison), and a top recruit in Mello that I thought would be ranked in short order also. New rankings were just released and for the first time I can recall we don't have a single ranked player, and the team has fallen to #27.

I still think this squad is a good one and I'm hopeful they will come on strong this Spring. We certainly have a good coach and lots of talent, and I don't think the current scenario accurately reflects where the program is at. The next three contests will tell us more including today's match-up against #16 William & Mary. We also face #5 Florida on Sunday and #14 Fresno State the following week. I think we are going to do better than our current ranking indicates we might...all three are home matches so I hope there is a good turnout to support our ladies.

are they charging for admission at the home matches now?

i want to see the girls and guys take on USC when im home for spring break!

keep it up,tennis!

Way to go Horns!

the horns are more than capable of beating #5 florida today. the gators have four players ranked in the top 100, but none in the top 25 and only one in the top 50. and while we may not have anyone ranked right now we also had four top 100 players at the beginning of the season....we certainly have the talent to play with and defeat florida. we need to go out and play strong, tough TEXAS tennis. with the win against #16 w&m on friday, if we win today and then take down #14 fresno state next week, we should be back near the to 10....which is where we belong!

the horns played a great match against #5 florida. even though they lost 5-2, four of six matches went to 3 sets and the contest could have gone either way. nice to see our ladies playing so well vs. a top 5 program...i think we will be back in or near the top 10 at some point this season.

Does anyone know if Texas men's or women's are going to be signing anymore players in the spring? The men's team has some big shoes to fill. Luis Diaz Barriga has pretty much been an automatic point for us each dual match, and Milan has been a clincher for us throughout his career!

Same can be said about Courtney Zauft who key for our NCAA runner-up!!

Those are some big names and I hope we can expect some big names to sign in the spring. Don't think we have blue chippers yet in 2008 on both sides.
