"A car-jacking turns into a police chase which ends with two teens in custody.

Police say the two Guatemalans, 16 and 17, escaped a facility in Des Plaines around 6 this morning, hijacking a car there and making their way to Moline and Walmart.

Officers say that's where they ordered a 91-year-old veteran out of his car and took off in it, ramming another car on the way out of the parking lot.

Iowa officers initiated a short pursuit this afternoon, deploying stop sticks on Interstate 80 near Iowa City, arresting the teens. They say no one was hurt.

"I mean the 91-year-old veteran was a little shook up but actually he did everything right when he gave them the car," Moline Detective Scott Williams said. "He didn't try to fight 'em.'"

Police say the surveillance video at Walmart helped them identify the suspects. Now they are awaiting charges from Moline and Des Plaines."

These are 2 who just came here for a better life and that apparently included getting a free car.

That's a long way to travel just to steal a car!

Immigrants commit fewer crimes than native born citizens while their children commit almost the exact same number of crimes as natives. There isn't much evidence that there is a coming epidemic of crime coming from these people other than anecdotal stuff. Same with people freaking out about crime while the murder rate is half of what it was 25 years ago. Look at the data, not the sensationalized news.

Why is it so difficult to call them what they are, Illegal aliens. ( NO paso they are NOT refugees , do you think they should be given refuge status now?))

If they hadn't been allowed in the country and sent to Moline they could not have stolen this man's car.

Crime Rates in the United States Fell as the Size of the Immigrant Population (Including the Unauthorized) Increased Dramatically.

Between 1990 and 2010, the foreign-born share of the U.S. population grew from 7.9 percent to 12. 9 percent {Figure 1} and the number of unauthorized immigrants tripled from 3.5 million to 11.2 million {Figure 2}.

During the same period, FBI data indicates that the violent crime rate declined 45 percent {Figure 3} and the property crime rate fell 42 percent {Figure 4}.

A 2007 study by University of California, Irvine, sociologist Rubén G. Rumbaut, found that for every ethnic group, without exception, incarceration rates among young men are lowest for immigrants, even those who are the least educated. This holds true especially for the Mexicans, Salvadorans, and Guatemalans who make up the bulk of the undocumented population.
The 3.5 percent incarceration rate for native-born men age 18-39 was five times higher than the 0.7 percent rate for immigrant men in 2000{Figure 5}. Among male high-school dropouts, 9.8 percent of the native-born were behind bars in 2000, compared to only 1.3 percent of immigrants.
In 2000, 0.7 percent of foreign-born Mexican men and 0.5 percent of foreign-born Salvadoran and Guatemalan men were in prison. Among male high-school dropouts, 0.7 percent of foreign-born Mexicans and 0.6 percent of foreign-born Salvadorans and Guatemalans were behind bars in 2000.

The problem of crime in the United States is not caused or even aggravated by immigrants, regardless of their legal status. This is hardly surprising since immigrants come to the United States to pursue economic and educational opportunities not available in their home countries and to build better lives for themselves and their families. As a result, they have little to gain and much to lose by breaking the law. Undocumented immigrants in particular have even more reason to not run afoul of the law given the risk of deportation that their lack of legal status entails. Public policies must be based on facts, not anecdotes or emotions. And the fact is that the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals.

There are plenty of reasons to want them out. They are expensive. But if we kick them out, the crime RATE would actually go up. The point of my posts is not that they should be here, it's that the fear mongering about crime is not based on statistics.

A little over 1900 cars are stolen each day in the United States. Most of them are stolen by legal residents. Maybe we should force the legal residents out and allow the illegal aliens to stay. Then the number of crimes AND the crime rate would decrease.

A fact can be absolutely true and yet the point behind bringing up that particular fact still irrelevant idiotic. For example, we could kick everyone out regardless of immigrant status until we had a national population of 0, and then we'd have no crime at all!

Socrates called himself a gadfly because he was always needling people, asking rhetorical questions, and offering contrary opinions just to get responses. BI does the same. He reads a post then plays devils advocate by posting something contrary no matter how ridiculous in nature. So yes, BI, your facts are correct - just asinine in context to the discussion.

It's impossible to argue with dems/libs. There is no common sense in them.

100% 0f the people who enter the U.S. illegally have committed a crime by doing so. Put that on your stat sheet.
