Memphis

Calapari gets nothing. Memphis gets a slap on the wrist.

I was in high school when Calipari came to Memphis. He brought some much needed (at the time) excitement to the city & the program. This was right after the embarrassment of Tic Price's affair with a student. It was only when I got to college about two years later that I started to hate him for taking the program away from it was forever. Memphis teams had always been filled with local boys and few outsiders. It was hard for me to cheer for a team where non of the players were from Memphis. In my opinion, this is where he went wrong. He took the history out of the program, and for what? I think all of his success at Memphis is tarnished.

The only good news to the story is that he is no longer the winningest coach at Memphis. That achievement goes back to Larry Finch who led the team as a player to the 1973 championship game, and coached the Tigers from 1986 - 1997.

I wish there were some way for a school to go after a coach legally for putting them in that position. A nice hefty monetary payment worth a year or two of their current salary or if they want to bypass the steep money payment, jail time in a federal you know what type of prison.

I know, a nice thought but won't happen. The thought of Sampson, Calipari and their ilk in jail makes me warm and fuzzy.

So Cal skates again. What is the deterrent to cheating here?

This just has to embolden the AAU scumbags even more.

What would have happened if Chalmers had missed that 3 to tie the championship game and Memphis had won? Would Kansas be awarded the championship now? Or would there just be no champion that year? Thankfully he hit the 3 and the game went to OT and the Jayhawks won so we don't have to worry about that mess. Im just curious as to what would happen if Memphis had won the game.

If Memphis had won. The NCCA staying with its spineless past would not have had the balls to take away the title.
It would have done nothing.
Taking away a final four is much easier than a title. The NCCA would not like the record book having no champ for a year.
