Any advice/tips/suggestions on Memphis?

Get ready to sweat!

Can't comment on living in Memphis, but love to visit because I like blues & BBQ and Memphis has a bunch of both.

I lived there in 2002-03 and I really loved it. People in the region (known as the Mid-South) are incredibly friendly. There's a great racial mix of middle class black, white, asian and hispanic - and everyone interacts across racial and cultural divides. There's lots of parks and recreation - but you do have to prepare for heat / humidity / heat thunderstorms in the summer.

There is a social scene well beyond Beale Street. The mid-town district has some pretty good restaurants and clubs. Memphis gets lots of touring acts that play the smaller venues - right up to the large auditoriums.

Lastly - I hope you are not a vegetarian. That city does have lots of vegan and veggie friendly places (and people)... but you would be missing out on some amazing B-B-Q. Go to the BBQ Shop, just out of downtown, and get the "dry rub" full rack. Pure heaven.

Let me know if you have any other questions...I'm jealous - I would move back there in a second.

We really think we want to live in Midtown. We will be there all next week looking around.

Thanks for your insights!

Go git you some ribs at The Rendevous and some blues and brews at Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street. .If you find my wallet down there, I'm offering a reward! Porky's and Interstate smoke some good 'cue, too.
