Memory Stick RAM?

I've got a Toshiba laptop (with Vista Home Basic) and I put the max RAM that I could, which is 2GB. I don't know if this is true, but a friend of mine told me I could add more RAM with a memory stick. Is that true, and if so, how much RAM from a memory stick would make a difference? Also, let's say I get a 5GB stick. Would that mean I'd have 7GB of RAM, or does the memory stick "over ride" the 2GB of RAM on my computer?

Definitely not true.

The memory stick would reside on a USB bus which is worlds slower than the main memory bus. Not to mention, how is windows suppose to know to use the memory stick as main memory and not just an extra bit of drive space?

I suppose you could have windows use the memory stick as virtual memory (don't know how, just theorizing) but even still, that would be very slow... The hard drive would be faster.

"Under heavy HD activity" as in the bus is clogged, then fine... But that really doesn't say much to me. If the HD bus isn't bogged down vs. a USB bus... Whats the difference there?

And regardless, it is not the same effect as doubling your physical RAM.

Install XP.
