Brandon Mouton to Ted Valentine after fouling out of the Xavier game in 2003:
According to Fort Worth's Star-Telegram, this is the exchange:
Mouton: "Mr. Official, could you please tell me what I did wrong on that play?"
Valentine: "Shut the [bleep] up, man."
Mouton: "Relax, man. Everything's all right. I thought it was a loose ball. I know I had both arms extended going after the ball, but I didn't think I impeded his progress. Can you tell me what you saw?"
Was actually at the regional final and final four in 03 and the sweet 16 in 04. That 04 screw job in the Georgia Dome was painful to watch but the fact that we would have gotten killed the next round by Duke (who had beaten us by 40 something earlier in the year) at least didnt make it feel like it cost us a Final Four.
Wow this is very cool, they actually have the entire games to watch. I had never gotten to see the '03 game vs MSU, so getting to watch it finally is awesome. We were so good back then, everyone had their role and they played it without ego. Rick should make his teams watch the replays of those games to see what a team means.
"Rick should make his teams watch the replays of those games to see what a team means."
Actually, I'd want him to show those games to see how Royal Ivey did everything right on every play, and how Mouton used his body as an advantage over other guards, and how Thomas fought hard for boards. Our current players need to understand roles better.
This year's squad gets it ... or at least is in the process of getting it.
The best teams have a Gestalt quality. The previous two Longhorns ballclubs lacked it, but this year's group is beginning to convince me they are different.
