I've always thought it was funny that people - who never play the lottery - rush out and buy tickets when the jackpot gets obscene. As if the regular 80 million jackpots aren't enough.

And, yes, I will be buying my first lottery ticket in 5 years today.

The sad thing is people will be taking money from their mortgages, food budget and college savings to buy $200 dollars worth of tickets for a chance so small, you are more likely to get struck by lighting twice.

I've always thought of the lottery as an ironic redistribution of wealth. It will be even more ironic when Bill Gates or Steve Forbes wins the thing.

The Maryland winner walked into his local 7-11 3 hours before the drawing and bought one ticket. His share is 213 million.

You can say that buying lottery tickets is stupid all you want, but I say it's worth a buck or two to have a shot at half a billion dollars.

Congrats to them, that's awesome! I hope they all come forward and realize they won and the money helps them and others around them in a positive way. I hope they don't end up being poor or bankrupt like what seems to happen to so many who win.
