It was 106 degrees in the shade at the time. I told my dad that I would be at that hole and to look for me on TV.
I had no idea that SI's Robert Beck was shooting behind me. After the shot I was walking away and he came up and said 'thanks for injecting yourself into my picture'. I didn't immediately understand what he meant but my son said you'd better go get his number. LSS, I got his info and ordered a number of prints, including a signed, chromium ink, 10 X 14 that is so clear you can see individual leaves on the trees in detail.
There were a couple of guys in OU (sux) gear to my right and they knew what I was going to do and they told me I'd better not do it. Top my left was a guy wearing Okie State gear and he said, 'I've got your back T-sip, do it!'
The SI issue from that week had the same exact shot but from Saturday and I was in the same spot but sans Horns Up.
Robert Beck's the same guy who took the Sports Illustrated shots of the NC Rose Bowl. He just happened to get a few more shots of me at the UCLA-Texas game last year. I was 6 rows behind the UCLA bench. His site, (www.robertbeckphotography.com) is kind of cool
And I was lucky enough to get captured in this shot too: The Link
Harry Cabluck was the photographer, he's the guy who stuck his camera out the press bus window as it passed Dealy Plaza, seconds after the shots. Google that sometime. He lives here in Austin and does all the UT basketball games
PS-I'm roasting a pig Saturday on the tailgate spot formerly occupied by the Hornfans tailgate at 19th and San Jacinto.
