MD-DC area digs

It looks like I will be up in the area of MD/DC for the foreseeable future... likely living 20+ miles north of DC off Hwy 270, and working in the District. For any of you familiar with the area, I would greatly appreciate feedback as to the following:

- good places to catch Longhorn football games...
- hidden gem watering holes
- good places to catch live music
- can't miss restaurants

I also may be spending some time in the Annapolis area and I am interested in the same type of information regarding that locale...

Thanks for any and all guidance.

Rhodeside Grill for Texas football games.
watering holes - depends on what you like.
9:30 club, Birchmere, and State Theater for music
can't miss eats -
Ben's Chili Bowl
Old Ebbitt Grill (establishment watering hole and fantastic raw bar and crabcakes)
Johnny's Half Shell
Citronelle
DC Coast
Cafe Atlantico
Tabbard Inn
Kinkead's

But, this is your best bet for suggestions:The Link

Vinny - are you set on living way up north off 270? That's a harrowing drive into the district. I'm in Bethesda and my wife works in the Navy Yard and it takes her a good 45 minutes to an hour to get to work. 270 can be a mess in the morning and especially in bad weather (ice or rain storms).

For TexMex, Uncle Julio's Rio Grande is really good and has great fajitas/margaritas - there's a location in downtown Bethesda and another in Gaithersburg. Rosa Mexicano in DC (Gallery Place/China Town) has really good guacamole and pomegranate margaritas and is more of a traditional Mexican place.

I think you'd like the Bethesda area a lot in terms of night life, Ri-Ra is a good Irish pub and there's tons of restaurants of every cuisine in downtown Bethesda. Friendship Heights (in Northwest, two stops past Bethesda on the red line) also has a ton of shopping and some good restaurants.

Annapolis is an awesome little town to hang out in; lots of shops/history/good food. Walking around the Naval Academy is pretty cool. Middleton Tavern is a really old tavern from the 1700's (Washington, etc ate there). Everywhere in Annapolis will have good crabs, but Cantler's is one of the best places to get beer/crabs - it's not in Annapolis, but about 20-30 minutes away.

I'm sure others will chime in more, but that's my experience living up off the red line.

I'm moving to the DC area as well (Bethesda area) in the next two months. We'll have to do a DC area meet up come football season.

I suspect our weak out-of-conference schedule this year will limit the availability of those games it the MD-DC area... sad.
