COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP)—Senior Stephen McGee was chosen Texas A&M’s starting quarterback by new coach Mike Sherman, ending the competition with sophomore Jerrod Johnson.

The 6-foot-3 McGee, who started the past two seasons for former coach Dennis Franchione, threw for 2,311 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2007. McGee has a 16-11 record as the Aggies’ starter.

i'd rather see mcgee on the field.

jerrod scares the **** out of me.

Can you imagine what would have happened to the sheep in that town if McGee wasn't named the QB. He has beaten Texas twice with a year to go, reminds of that little Bucky Richardson sunofa@#@#$@#%@#$%@#$%#@!!!!

the ags are pretty split on mcgee and jerrod. they saw what vince can do and they believe jerrod is capable of doing the same.l

he might be as athletic, but no one has seen if he can lead. if he can, they could have a nice team with one of the best backfields in the country.

It is ridiculous for anyone here to dog McGee after what he has done to us. The guy has been nails against Texas all three years and has proven he can take a hit.

I respect the hell out of him.

What Drag said. I despise the sheep-humpers as much as the next guy, but you gotta give credit where credit is due. Dude is a hell of a college football player.

I also am one who respects what he has done to us over the last 3 years. As one who saw what a good passer that McGee was in high school..I look for him to have a good year. However, he has to have receivers who can get open and an offensive line that can protect, both areas where I think the Aggies may still be hurting. This is one game that the Horns will not let get away from them this time.

I have to admit I give you guys serious props for "credit giving" to McGee.... I think you guys will give us all we can handle in Austin this year no matter who our QB is.

I only hope that Tech doesn't rise up in the South. If that happens, God help us all. We will never hear the end of it.

Gig em, and hook'em (except T-Day).

I for one never understood the idea that Mcgee CANT pass.Remember seeing him and Shipley have some incredible games for Burnet. It was just Franochios outdated stupid *** offense that put Mcgee into some dangerous situations.Of course that stupid *** offense did beat us two years in a row so i guess i cant say a whole lot.

We had more to do with aggy winning than aggy did....sadly.

No excuses, just fact.

It is hard to fathom how a team that embarrassed Arizona, could allow the aggy who looked so "good" against Army (among others) to stay in the game against Texas, much less win twice. Just shameful.

Or, we just werent a very good football team last year.

A&M struggled with Army, sure. We struggled with Central Florida and Arkansas State, not to mention getting absolutely blown out at home against a relatively ****** KSU team.

We didn't have to shoot ourselves in the foot to lose to A&M last year. They played well and won the game, beating us soundly in every statistical category that matters. It could easily have been worse. Incredible that they did it with a lame duck coach and retread assistants at the helm. No wonder Mack was so pissed.

2006, on the other hand, was incredible to watch. A chance at the conference title game, last home game for seniors who were defending national champs, etc etc etc. Now that was one that we gave away. I still can't beleive that final drive. They stuffed it down our throats and made us gag on it during that winning TD drive. It was unbelievable that they did that to us, given everything that was at stake.

During both of these games, it was McGee whose guts and leadership carried them to victory. If he played that way, or got that much help during the other games on their schedule, A&M might actually have been scary last year and Fran might still be employed there.

That drive, to me, epitomized what we could expect to see during 2007 -- soft, uninspired football played by some pretty good players and some other guys who should have at least split time with more talented underclassmen.

"Earn the right" is a good slogan for these guys. They played like they deserved it last year, and they got exactly what they deserved as a result.

I hope we can actually play some defense this year. As much as I don't like it, this kid has been difficult, if not impossible, for us to contain.

I hate the **** out of that ************. It makes me sick that he could leave A&M with a 3-1 record against Texas, and at worst will only be 2-2. We should beat those ************* 75% of the time we play.
