McDonald interested in WKU?

Barnes will fill his spot with another good assistant. It won't be hard because coaches know if they come in here and do a good job for a few years, they will get a head coaching job somewhere with Barnes' blessing.

Russ Springmann is the assistant Texas can't afford to lose for recruiting purposes. He's been crisscrossing the country the last few years building towards the '09 class.

Ken McDonald is a good evaluator with good connections. He recruited Clint Chapman and Dogus Balbay. He's the point person on Devin Ebanks for the '08 class. I don't know how this would affect that recruitment. All of it is pretty nebulous regarding Ebanks unless/until he makes a visit to Austin anyway.

He'd be a big loss to the staff, as much for his ability to teach one on one as his recruiting. I hope he does a great job at Western Kentucky and goes on to have an outstanding career.

At this point, I feel pretty comfortable in saying Barnes is going to get someone superlative on staff if McDonald ends up departing.

When Ricky Stokes left, Texas was sunk.
When Rob Lanier left, Texas was sunk.
When Frank Haith left, Texas was sunk.
If MacDonald or Springman leaves, Texas will be sunk.
Actually, no.
Besides, RB can hire Lanier away from Florida.

any chance he would give the spot to Ogden? I know he does the "video exchange", per the website. But is he trying to be an ***. coach?

is *** coach kind of like being the assman (re: cosmo kramer)? or is that more of a 3:16 sort of position?

ok, ok, asst. assistant...better?

dam hippies, now I remember why I hate them so much...

SL, recalibrate your sarcasm meter. My post was in jest, but there were some who on past occasions of an assistant's departure predicted possibly dire consequences for our recruiting. There can be an effect, but the next assistant will be top notch and the high level recruits will continue to flow in so long as RB is head coach and Todd Wright remains for S&C.

As much of a relationship as the recruiters build with the recruits. the HC and the place of the program nationally and within the Big 12 are the primary draws. Besides, it seems evident to me that the first words a departing assistant would have for a recruit beyond, "I'm leaving," would be, "Go to Texas." It would shock me to learn that a former assistant would even attempt to recruit one of his Texas targets to a different school or to suggest that there was an acceptable option for the recruit besides UT.
