McCain's failure to vote on Stimulus package?

Does it matter that John McCain failed to return to the Senate and do the work of the people on the Stimulus package? Or is his presence in the Senate unnecessary?

Actually it's not really that simple but as the leading candidate for the GOP you would think he might use his influence to work towards a compromise of some sort. Of course if you aren't there I guess it's a moot point.

and to seriously answer the question - i think that yes, even if they are campaigning, there should be some sort of vehicle in place for them to place their votes on legislation, even if there is a special exception or something that they can vote in absentia.

edit: i guess it took 24 hours for senate's post. my bad.

Does it matter at all unless the vote was so close that their votes would have decided the passage.

Each of them would have been there is they were truly needed.
