Maybe we will become a basketball school

Based on recruiting so far, it looks like we will be competitive with Kansas and Iowa state only. Yea, I know, it's only September. I do not see a miracle happening in February. We cannot get anybody to commit that meets out DT and DE critical need position. Even U of H is out recruiting us in the DL. Maybe we should move to Conference USA.

We need to get out of the Little 12 and try to get into the PAC 12. Screw the LHN, it's not that great anyway.

You're right that we need to recruit well, but I'm optimistic that Charlie will get us back to where we want to be. May take a couple years though. We have a good baseline of young talent now.

After hauling in a great recruiting class last year (plus a good one the year before), I have a hard time listening to naysayers. The exact same was being said this time last year.

Remember last year at this time. Charlie had not gotten that many commits. By February he had a top ten class. I don't see any reason that won't happen this year.

4 out of 5 of the last class' Florida recruits didn't show up or last. And Malik only came to Texas because Sumlin monumentally screwed up. Without those, Strong wouldn't have even a top 30 class.

Charlie will need to actually show that he can recruit in Texas in 2016 to have a decent class. And he'd better figure out real soon how to get the respect of the Texas high school coaches over his competition, because right now he doesn't have that from many. And no wonder. He foolishly gets rid of a bunch of starters his first year, he goes 6 - 7, loses 4 out of his first 6 games the following year, and doesn't make any attempt to contact recruits when he first can this year. The guy either doesn't know what he's doing, or else he's totally befuddled at this level (despite Norvell cuing him to how to beat ou's O, D and STs, and the ou OL letting the Texas D know on every play whether it will be a run or pass). Those were worth at least two TDs that ou didn't get because Charlie got lucky.

Academic casualties, homesick kids from Florida, and Sumlin mistakes won't make for highly-ranked (but not really) recruiting classes forever.

So far for 2016, there's a huge sucking sound:

Strong may succeed despite himself at Texas, but he's going to have to learn how to coach at this level to make that happen. And having to learn on the job is not often a good predictor of the under-prepared who make it at the next level.
